R A. Inspection Procedure
R WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A GOOD FLOW OF AIR THROUGH THE WORK_______
R AREA WHEN YOU USE SPECIAL MATERIALS.
R IF YOU GET ONE OF THESE MATERIALS ON YOUR SKIN, IN YOUR MOUTH
R OR IN YOUR EYES :
R -FLUSH IT AWAY WITH A FLOW OF CLEAN WATER FOR BETWEEN 10 AND 15
R MINUTES.
R -GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL AID IF IRRITATION OCCURS.
R DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE MATERIAL.
R DO NOT SMOKE WHEN YOU USE THE MATERIAL.
R DO NOT USE THE MATERIAL NEAR A FLAME, SPARKS OR SOURCES OF
R HEAT.
R THESE MATERIALS ARE DANGEROUS : THEY ARE POISONOUS, FLAMMABLE
R AND SKIN IRRITANTS.
R (1) Do the visual inspection of the ball screw assembly for:
R - The correct condition of the secondary load path
R - The correct clearance between the secondary nut trunnion and the
R junction plate.
R (2) Clean the inspection areas.
R WARNING : OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU USE_______
R THIS/THESE MATERIAL/S.
R USE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, RUBBER GLOVES, GOGGLES AND A MASK.
R (a) Use the CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-002), to clean:
R - The screw shaft of the THS actuator (1)
R - The area approximately around the secondary nut trunnion (2)
R and the junction plate (3).
R (b) Let the cleaned items dry.

R (3) On the two sides of the secondary nut trunnion (2), use a GAGE -
R FEELER of 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.) thickness:
R - To measure the clearance of the secondary nut trunnion (2) and the
R bottom of the junction plate (3)
R - To measure the clearance of the secondary nut trunnion (2) and the
R top of of the junction plate (3).
R (a) If the measured clearance is less than 0.6 mm (0.0236 in.),
R replace the THS actuator before the next flight (Ref. TASK 27-44-
R 51-000-001) and (Ref. TASK 27-44-51-400-001).
R (4) Use a FLASHLIGHT to visually inspect the THS actuator for cracks,
R distortion, metal debris and loose nuts and bolts.
R (5) Use a FLASHLIGHT to inspect the screw threads (1) for missing chrome
R plate and dents.
R NOTE : Missing chrome plate is acceptable if the base material of the____
R screw threads is not worn, damaged or corroded.
