WARNING: USE ETHYL ALCOHOL (OR ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL) ONLY IN WELL
VENTILATED AREAS.
(3) If the surfaces cannot be cleaned with an air jet, clean the
surfaces with:
• Ethyl alcohol (or isopropyl alcohol) or purified water as cleaning
agent
• Toothbrush to clean large areas
• Cotton swabs to clean small areas.
(4) Remove all residual substances from the printed circuit card
assemblies using a dry brush, cloth or compressed air after
cleaning.
D. Fan Assembly Near J1 Connector
(1) Remove the fan assembly together with the frames.
(2) Use a soft bristle brush or cotton swabs to loosen or remove the
dust and dirt on the fan blades and body and on the J1 connector
top.
(3) Use an air jet to remove the loosened dust and dirt.
(4) Install the fan assembly as it was.
E. Fan Assembly on RF Power Card Assembly (A3)
(1) Remove the RF power card assembly (A3 card) from the card slot
(A5CN6).
(2) Remove the fan assembly from the heat sink assembly.
(3) Use a soft bristle brush or cotton swabs to loosen or remove the
dust and dirt on the fan blades and body and on the heat sink
assembly.
(4) Use an air jet to remove the loosened dust and dirt.
(5) Install the fan assembly on the heat sink assembly as it was.

CHECK
1. General
This section provides information to determine if the Video Modulator Unit
(VMU) is serviceable, requires repair, or must be replaced.
2. Visual Check
Visually check the product name for obvious defects. Severe damage that
necessitates part or all of the metal enclosure will require replacement of
the VMU as a whole.
3. Functional Testing
Perform the functional testing given in the TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION
section to determine if the VMU is serviceable or requires repair or
replacement.
4. Recommended Replacement Parts
Certain parts and assemblies are subject to gradual wear and/or
deterioration. It is recommended that they be replaced before they go down
and as listed below:
NAME OF PART PART NUMBER IPC FIG-ITEM REPLACEMENT
FAN ASSEMBLY R8S7AA5002ZB 1-65 Every 14,000 hours of operation
FAN ASSEMBLY R8S7AA5002ZB 4-115 Every 14,000 hours of operation

REPAIR
1. General
A. This section gives the procedures to repair the Video Modulator Unit
(VMU). Most of the repair work is to replace components (parts or
subassemblies) of the VMU found defective in the procedures given in the
TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION - PART 1 or PART 2 section.
B. We give a general replacement procedure first. We then give more
instructions to be obeyed for each type of components. First, refer to
the general replacement procedure, then to the instructions given after
the general replacement procedure. Also, refer to the applicable figure
in the IPC for the mounting direction of the component.
C. When you send a printed circuit card assembly to the factory for repair,
put it in an anti-static bag for electrostatic protection. You can use
aluminum foil as alternative for the anti-static bag if the card contains
no backup power sources such as batteries.
D. For the printed circuit card assemblies installed in the UUT, we use
their designations only as their names. Refer to the table below.
DESIGNATION FULL NAME
A1 card CPU card assembly
A2 card Modulator card assembly
A3 card RF power card assembly
A4 card Power card assembly
A5 card Mother card assembly
A6 card Fuse card assembly
A7 card Connector card assembly
