RF video receiving equipment (Toshiba TT-GC9 or
TT-GC10 TV tuner, video cassette recorder, etc.)
that you use for testing of the VMUs. The video
output of the RF video receiving equipment must be
calibrated with a standard signal generator. The
tolerance is 1 Vp-p ± 1% into a specified load (50
or 75 W) for an RF video input modulated 87,5%
with 100% white video.

ITEM (SOURCE) DESCRIPTION/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
NTSC or PAL Video
Monitor (C/A)
This unit receives the composite color video signal from
the VMU tuner and shows color pictures. The input
impedance must be 75 W (±1%).
NOTE: If you use your RF video receiving equipment for
VMU testing (Toshiba TT-GC9 or TT-GC10 TV tuner,
video cassette recorder, etc.), the monitor must be
the one that is connected to your receiving
equipment.
Oscilloscope (C/A) DC to 40 MHz, precision of ±3% for 1 Vp-p video signal
measurements.
RF Cable (C/A) BNC-BNC 50-W coaxial cable. Three sets are necessary
(RFC1 thru RFC3).
Video Cable (C/A) BNC-BNC coaxial cable. Four sets are necessary (VC1 thru
VC4). The cable impedance can be 50 or 75 W.
BNC Tee Adapter (C/A) Two sets are necessary (T1 and T2).
Monitor Cable (C/A) One set is necessary to connect the output (BNC) of the
VMU tuner to the input of the video monitor.
CPU Extension Card,
RD-AM9357-1
(Panasonic)
It connects to the A5 card and gives an extended
connection for the A1 card for fault isolation.
Modulator Extension
Card,
RD-AM9357-2
(Panasonic)
It connects to the A5 card and gives an extended
connection for the A2 card for fault isolation.
Power Extension Card,
RD-AM9357-3
(Panasonic)
It connects to the A5 card and gives an extended
connection for the A4 card for fault isolation.
Ceramic Alignment
Screwdriver or
Flat-Blade
Screwdriver (C/A)
Use this to turn VR100, VR101, VR200 and VR201 (variable
resistors) on the A1 card and VR301 on A4 card. We
recommend to use a ceramic alignment screwdriver (all
insulating material) to prevent accidental damage to the
A1 and A4 cards.
Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter
(VOM) or Digital
Multimeter (DMM)
(C/A)
Use a VOM or DMM for continuity check and fault
isolation. It must be an "ISOLATED" type, such as a
battery-operated one, for fault isolation on the primary
circuits of the A5 card.

3. Preparation for Functional Testing
A. Personal Computer (PC)
The procedure given below is for the first time only. Ignore the
procedure for the second time and after.
(1) Install the VMU tester software, MD2HD256199A. Refer to the OMM for
the procedure.
(2) The PC usually has two serial ports, COM1 and COM2. Use one of
these ports for VMU testing as follows:
IF YOU USE: OPERATION
COM1 Port No change is necessary for the "Communication" settings.
COM2 Port The "PORT" setting must be changed from COM1 to COM2.
Refer to the OMM for the procedure.
(3) Stop the PC (Start ® Shut down ® OK).

B. Functional Test Setup
Refer to Figure 111 for the setup necessary for the functional testing.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT ALL UNITS ARE DE-ENERGIZED BEFORE YOU MAKE THEIR
CONNECTIONS.
(1) Video Input Connection
(a) Connect the output of the video pattern generator to:
· The 75-W input of the impedance converter with a video cable
(VC1) if the output impedance of the video pattern generator is
75 W. Go to step (b).
· The input of the impedance selector with a video cable (VC2) if
the output impedance of the video pattern generator is 50 W.
Go to step (c).
(b) Connect the 50-W output of the impedance converter to the input
of the impedance selector with a video cable (VC2).
(c) Connect a BNC tee adapter T1 to the VIDEO INPUT CH1 connector of
the tester.
(d) Connect the output of the impedance selector to the BNC tee
adapter T1 with a video cable (VC3).
(e) Connect the CH1 input of the oscilloscope to the BNC tee adapter
T1 with a video cable (VC4).
NOTE: It is important to use the same oscilloscope to measure
