F. General Safety Precautions
(1) Observe these general safety precautions for all phases of
operation, service, and repair of the component.
ELECTROSTATIC
DISCHARGE
All Integrated Circuits (ICs), surface mounted
devices, and many semiconductors are ESDS.
Incorrect handling can seriously decrease
component life. Observe the circuit card
handling procedures given in the DISASSEMBLY
and/or REPAIR sections to prevent ESD damage.
GROUNDING Electrically ground equipment and personnel to
minimize shock hazards. When handling circuit
board assemblies, place them on a grounded
workbench.
EXPLOSIVE
ENVIRONMENT
Do not operate the component in the presence of
flammable gas or fumes. Do not expose equipment
to water or high humidity.
LIVE CIRCUITS It is possible for components to have highvoltage
electrical circuits. Do not service the
component with the power on. Always disconnect
power and discharge the circuits before
maintenance.
DO NOT
SUBSTITUTE PARTS
OR CHANGE
EQUIPMENT
Do not change or add to the mechanical or
electrical design of the component. Do not
install substitute parts or make any unauthorized
modifications to the equipment.
Design changes can change safety characteristics
and create danger. Any design changes or
additions voids the warranty.
CHECK Visually check for pinched, out-of-place, or
frayed wiring during maintenance. Replace
components and/or wiring that appear to have
overheated or are otherwise damaged.
