A5 card, then pull out the card from the card slot.
C. Removal of A8 and A5 Cards
(1) Remove all of the A1, A2, A3, and A4 cards from the card slots.
(2) Disconnect the two connector assemblies [1-105 and 1-110] from the
A8CN501 and A8CN502 connectors on the A8 card [1-90].
(3) Remove the 4 screws [1-95] and remove the A8 card [1-90].
(4) Disconnect the two transformer connectors [1-215 and 1-230] from the
A5CN21 and A5CN22 connectors on the A5 card [1-115].
(5) Disconnect the printed flexible cable [1-170] from the A5CN20
connector on the A5 card [1-115].
(6) Remove the 4 spacers [1-100] and 4 screws [1-120].
(7) Remove the four coax contacts of the coax cable assemblies [1-175]
from the A5CN6 connector on the A5 card [1-115].
(8) Remove the A5 card [1-115].

C. Removal of A6 and A7 Cards
(1) Remove the 4 screws [1-130] and remove the rear panel [1-125].
(2) Disconnect the two transformer connectors [1-215 and 1-230] from the
A6CN3 and A6CN4 connectors on the A6 card [1-195].
(3) Disconnect the connector assembly [1-180] from the A6CN2 connector
on the A6 card [1-195].
(4) Remove the 4 screws [1-205] and remove the A6 card [1-195].
(5) Disconnect the printed flexible cable [1-170] from the A7CN1
connector on the A7 card [1-135].
(6) Remove the 2 nuts [1-150], 2 spring washers [1-155] and 2 washers
[1-160].
(7) Desolder the 60 pins that come from the J1 connector [1-185] and
remove the A7 card [1-135].

CLEANING
1. General
This section gives instructions for cleaning of the parts and subassemblies
of the Video Modulator Unit (VMU).
2. Tools and Materials Necessary for Cleaning
NOTE: You can use alternatives for the items given in the list. The source
is as follows:
• Panasonic for Panasonic Avionics Corporation
• C/A for available from commercial sources
• Trademarks or company names for other sources.

Use this to clean the external surfaces of the covers

card assemblies.
Toothbrush (C/A) Use this with alcohol to clean the dirty areas on the
printed circuit card assemblies.
Clean Low-Lint Cloth

Use this to clean or dry the surfaces.
Cotton Swab (C/A) Use this to clean small parts and recesses.
Compressed air (air
jet) (C/A)
An air source and a nozzle with a manual control. The
nozzle gives an air jet at a pressure of 0.2 MPa
(28 psig) maximum. The air jet must be clean and dry.
Purified Water (C/A) Use this to clean the printed circuit card assemblies.
3. Disassembly Necessary for Cleaning
Remove the top cover and bottom cover from the VMU to clean the internal
parts and subassemblies. Remove the printed circuit card assemblies as
necessary. Refer to the DISASSEMBLY section for full instructions.

4. Cleaning Procedures
WARNING: PUT ON GOGGLES BEFORE YOU USE AN AIR JET TO BLOW DUST AND DIRT FROM
PARTS. TELL PERSONNEL TO STAY AWAY FROM YOU.
A. External Surfaces and Connector
(1) Clean the top cover, bottom cover, front panel and rear panel with a
soft, clean cloth moist with a solution of neutral detergent and
water.
WARNING: USE ETHYL ALCOHOL (OR ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL) ONLY IN WELL
VENTILATED AREAS.
(2) Remove dust and dirt from the J1 connector with a soft-bristle
brush. Use cotton swabs moist with alcohol to clean the connector
pins.
B. Internal Connectors
Examine the connector contact areas for dust accumulations, and remove
the dust with an air jet.
C. Printed Circuit Card Assemblies
CAUTION: DO NOT USE CLEANING AGENTS OTHER THAN ETHYL ALCOHOL (OR
ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL) AND PURIFIED WATER TO CLEAN THE PRINTED
CIRCUIT CARD ASSEMBLIES.
CAUTION: PUT ON A CONDUCTIVE WRIST-STRAP THAT IS GROUNDED. DO THE
CLEANING WORK WITH THE UNIT PUT ON A GROUNDED CONDUCTIVE
SURFACE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGES FROM YOUR HANDS OR TOOLS CAN
