is established during radio propagation conditions which are
normal for the route.
7.1.2 When compliance with 7.1.1. requires that more
than one communication equipment unit be provided, each
shall be independent of the other or others to the extent that a
failure in any one will not result in failure of any other.
7.1.3 An aeroplane to be operated in accordance with the
visual flight rules, but as a controlled flight, shall, unless
exempted by the appropriate authority, be provided with radio
communication equipment capable of conducting two-way
cornmunication at any time during flight with such
aeronautical stations and on such frequencies as may be
prescribed by the appropriate authority.
7.1.4 An aeroplane to be operated on a flight to which the
provisions of 6.3.3 or 6.4 apply shall, unless exempted by the
appropriate authority, be provided with radio communication
equipment capable of conducting two-way communication at
any time during flight with such aeronautical stations and on
such frequencies as may he prescribed by the app~opriate
authority.
7.1.5 The radio communication equipment required in
accordance with 7.1.1 to 7.1.4 shall provide for communication
on the aeronautical emergency frequency 121.5 MHz.
7.2 Navigation equipment
7.2.1 An aeroplane shall be provided with navigation
equipment which will enable it to proceed:
a) in accordance with the flight plan; and
b) in accordance with the requixenlents of air traffic
services;
ANNEX 6 - PART TI
except when, if not so precluded by the appropriate authority,
navigation for flights under the visual flight rules is
accomplished by visual reference to landmarks at least every
110 h (60 NM).
7.2.2 For flights in defined portions of airspace or on
routes where an RNP type has been prescribed, an aeroplane
shall, in addition to the requirements specified in 7.2.1:
a) be provided with navigation equipment which will
enable it to operate in accordance with the prescribed
RNP type(s); and
b) be authorized by the State of Registry for opcrations i
such airspace.
Note.- Information on RNP and associated procedures,
and guidance concertling the approval process, are contained
in the Manual on Required Navigation Performance (RNP)
(Roc 9613). This docurnent also contains a comprehensive list
of references to other documents produced by States and
international bodies concerning navigation systems and RNP
7.2.3 For flights in dcfined portions of airspace where,
based on Regional Air Navigation Apreement, minimum
navigation performance specifications (MNPS) are prescribed,
an aeroplane shall be provided with navigation equipment
which:
a) continuously provides indications to the flight crew of
adherence to or departure from Rack to the required
degree of accuracy at any point along that track: and
b) has been authorized by the State of Registry for MNPS
operations concerned.
Note.- The prescribed minimum navigation performance
specificalions and the prvcedz~res governing their application
are published in Regional Supplementary Procedures
(Doc 7030). .
7.2.4 'For flights in defined portions of airspace where,
based on Regional Air Navigation Agreement, a vertical
separation minimum (VSM) of 300 m (1 000 ft) is applied
above FZ 290, an aeroplane:
a) shall be provided with equipment which is capable of:
1) indicating to the flight crew the flight level being
flown;
27n 1/03
No. 23
Annex 6 - Operation of Aircraft
2) automatically maintaining a selected flight level:
3) providing an alert to the fight crew when a deviation
occurs fiom the selected flight level. The threshold
for the alert shall not exceed * 90 m (300 ft); and
4) automatically reporting pressure-altitude; and
h) shall be authorized by the State of Registry for operation
in the airspace concerned.
7.2.5 The aeroplane shall be sufficiently provided with
navigation equipment to ensure that, in the event of the failure
of one item of equipment at any stage of the flight, the
remaining equipment will enable the aeroplane to navigate
in accordance with 7.2.' and where applicable 7.2.2, 7.2.3
and 7.2.4.
Note 1.- This reqr~irement may be met by means other
than the duplication of equipment.
Notr 2.- Guidance material relating to uircraft equipment
necessa?y forjlight in airspace where a 300 m ( I 000j) VSM
is applied above FL 290 is contained in the Manual on
hplementation of a 300 m (1 000 ft) Vertical Separation
Minimum Between FL 290 and FL 410 inclusive (Doc 9574).
