All United Stales-regislered aeroplanes are required to be equipped with an ELT mcctingTS0-C9 1 design
slandard insdlalion, and battery use requirements, cxccpt that thc United Stales does no1 require an
emergency locator transmitter for;
a) turbojet-powered aircraft;
b) aircraft opcrated in scheduled flights by scheduled air carriers;

c) aircraft operated in training operations within a 50-NM (93 krn) radius of the aerodrome from which
such local flight operations began;
d) flight operations incident to design and testing;
e) new aircraft while engagcd in flight operations incident to their manufacture, preparation, and
delivery;
f) igricultural aircraft operations;
g) aircraft for research and development purposes;
h) aircraft showing compliance with regulations, crew training, exhibition, air racing, or market surveys;
or
i) aircraft equipped to carry not more than one person.
The United States requirement for the installation of an ELT does not make a distinction for extended
flights over water or flights over designated land areas.
CHAPTER 7
7.1.1
The United States does not require crew members on flight deck duty to communicate through boom or
throat microphones below the transition levellaltitude.
Except when operating under controlled flight. aeroplanes operated ac night are not required to have radio
communications equipment capable of conducting two-way communications. United States requirements
for radio communications equipment are based upon the type of airspace in which the operation occurs.

When more than one radio cornrnunicat~ones quipment unit is required, the United States has no provision
that each unit be independent of any other.
Except when operating under con~rolledf light, aeroplanes on extended flights over water or on flights
over underdeveloped land are not required to have radio communications equipment capable of

The United States has no provisions concerning required aircraft navigation instruments enabling aflight
to proceed in accordance with aflight plan, prescribed RNP types, or the air traffic services provided. The
Vnited States does not specify aminimum distance between landmark references used by fligl~tos perating
under visual flight rules.
Aeroplanes are not required to have navigation equipment to ensure that, in the event of the failure of one
itemnf equipment at any stage of tine flight, the remaining equipment will enable the aeroplane to proceed
in accordance with Annex 6, Pm 11, paragraph 7.2.1 through 7.2.3.

8.2.2 The Uni~edS talcs does not require records to be maintained after the end of the operating life of the unit.
CHAPTER 9 The pilot-in-command is not required to cnsurc that the licenses of each flight crew member have been
issued or rendered valid by thc Statc of Registry and are properly rated and of current validity; and to be
satisfied that flight crew members have maintained competence.
