 7. Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Airfoil and Shroud for Cracks

 A. General
 (1)  
Do this inspection (or the subsequent eddy current inspection) if you think there are cracks and after you repair damage.

Equipment

 (1)  
Protective mat - Rubber Manufacturer's
 Association, Grade SC43, neoprene sponge, 1
 inch thick, approximately 5x6 feet with warning
 streamers attached (3 are necessary).

 (1)  Put the protective mat on the inner surface of the inlet cowl.

 WARNING: TO PREVENT INJURY TO YOUR HANDS, GLOVES SHOULD BE WORN WHEN YOU

 HANDLE THE BLADES.

 (2)  
With ultra high sensitivity penetrant, examine the areas of the blade where you think there are cracks (AMM 70-31-01/201).

 (a)  
Cracks are not permitted.

 (3)  If you are done with the fan blade inspections, remove the protective mat from the inlet cowl.
