3. Job Set-up

A. Get access to the area to be repaired.
4. Procedure
_________ (Ref. Fig. 801/TASK 51-77-14-991-006) Subtask 51-77-14-918-067 R A. Prepare the repair area:
(1)
Remove the frayed fibres.
(2)
Make the sharp edges smooth with emery paper (grade 100).

(3) Make the repair area smooth with abrasive cloth (grade 280) and abrasive cloth (grade 400).

THIS MATERIAL IS DANGEROUS.
(4)
Clean the repair area with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004) and a lint free cloth.
(5)
Make a doubler from corrosion-resistant steel (Ref. TASK 51-77-11-910-008).
(6)
Drill and deburr the rivet holes in the doubler.
(7) If necessary countersink the rivet holes.

R B. Install the doubler: NOTE : Use carbide tipped drills when you drill composite material.

(1)
Put the doubler over the repair and drill a rivet hole in the skin. Use the doubler as a template.
(2)
Install a rivet in the hole with SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013).
(3)
Drill a second rivet hole in the skin, opposite the rivet already installed. Use the doubler as a template.
(4)
Install a rivet in the second hole with SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013).
(5)
Drill the remaining holes in the skin. Use the doubler as a template.
(6)
Install the remaining rivets in the other holes with SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013).

(7)
Clean the repair area with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004) and a lint free cloth. (Ref. Fig. 801/TASK 51-77-14-991-006)

Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-005) to the edges of the doubler.

_______ This topic gives information on the cleaning of the aircraft structure after a spillage or contamination of the structure. A spillage must be removed as soon as possible to prevent damage to the aircraft structure.

A. Type of Contamination
(1)
Sewage Sewage can damage the aircraft metallic components and cause corrosion.
(2)
Hydraulic Fluid Contamination of the aircraft structure with hydraulic fluid, for a long time, will damage the corrosion-protection-paint.
(3)
Acid and Alkali Spillage Acids and alkalies can cause corrosion very quickly and damage the aircraft protective paint finish.
(4)
Fish Container Leakage Contamination of the aircraft structure with fish slime or sea water can cause corrosion to metal structure and components.
