Remove the surface protection and up to 50 mm (1.9685 in.) around the repair area with emery paper grade 100 or light grit blast (400-700) micron walnut grit.
(3)
Remove all damaged material but not more than one layer.
(4)
Feather the edges of the undamaged area to give a smooth edge to the repair area.
(5)
Make the repair area smooth with emery paper grade 280 and emery paper grade 400.

SPECIAL MATERIAL.
THIS MATERIAL IS DANGEROUS.
(6) Clean the repair area with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004) and a lint-free cloth.
NOTE : Do not pour the vapor degreaser directly on the repair area.

Moisten the lint-free cloth with vapor degreaser.

Remove all loose and unwanted material with a vacuum cleaner.
(8)
Clean the repair area with demineralized water and a lint-free cloth. NOTE : Do not pour demineralized water directly on the repair area.

A. Do the Water Break Test
(1)
Dry the repair area with a clean lint-free cloth.
(2)
Spray a thin coating of demineralized water on the repair area. NOTE : A thick coating of demineralized water will not show all the

defects on the repair area.
(3)
Inspect the wetted surface to make sure the water forms a thin continuous coating.
(4)
A defect is shown when the demineralized water is repelled and forms into beads of water.
(5)
If necessary, rub down the repair area with emery paper grade 400 to remove the defect.
(6)
If necessary, clean the repair area with demineralized water and a lint-free cloth.
(7)
If necessary, repeat the water-break test until there are no defects on the repair area surface.
(8)
Dry the repair area with a clean lint-free cloth. NOTE : On completion of the water-break test, do not touch the repair

area. Do the repair quickly to prevent contamination.
(9)
At the repair area apply new paint as necessary (Ref. SRM 51-75-12).
