Alternate flight plan activation,
-LAT or LONG crossing point insertion,
-APPROACH GUIDANCE TYPE selection,
-Abeam or Radial Intercept waypoint definition and insertion. Note that ILS/NON-ILS APPR selection is performed via the LAT REV page. However, this function results in a change to active guidance rather than the ACTIVE flight plan structure. Thus, this function is not considered in the following flight planning discussions. Note also that the FIX INFO pages can be accessed from the lateral page if the FIX INFO option is activated (realized via OPC); the definition of the abeam and radial intercept functions are given in this section. There are five means to identify a waypoint to be entered in the flight plan:
-IDENT
-LAT/LONG
-PLACE/BRG/DIST
-PLACE-BRG/PLACE-BRG
-PLACE/DIST (Along Track Offset) When not already defined in the data base, any of these last three entries (i.e. LAT/LONG, Place/Brg/Dist, Place-Brg/Place-Brg, Place/Dist) are automatically stored as part of the pilot defined waypoints list defined in the data base. The FM assigns an identifier to the entry. This identifier, then, is displayed in place of and with respect to the entry. Exceptions to this rule are noted.

(2) TEMPORARY flight plan (Ref. Fig. 029, 030) The TEMPORARY flight plan is a copy of the ACTIVE flight plan which has been changed according to the pilot action on the MCDU. It is created for display when the ACTIVE flight plan (primary or alternate) is changed through the LAT REV pages only. The aircraft continues to be guided by the original ACTIVE flight plan. At any time, only one TEMPORARY flight plan is allowed to exist and only one temporary revision is allowed at a time. However, when the aircraft is in preflight phase and a TEMPORARY exists, a FROM/TO, CO RTE, or ALTN (airport or CO RTE) entry on the INIT A page of either MCDU erases the TEMPORARY flight plan and strings the initialization. If a TEMPORARY exists, pressing the DIR TO key on either MCDU erases the TEMPORARY flight plan. If a TEMPORARY exists, creating the SECONDARY flight plan from the SEC INDEX page on either MCDU erases the TEMPORARY F-PLN. If either MCDU displays the DIR TO page, creating a TEMPORARY flight plan is not allowed on the other MCDU. A message is displayed in the scratchpad, DIR TO IN PROCESS. If a TEMPORARY flight plan exists, revisions are allowed on the SECONDARY flight plan. Except as noted above (and herein), any other mode key or line select action may be pressed or performed while a temporary exists; operation is normal and the temporary remains intact. When the ACTIVE flight plan is sequenced, the TEMPORARY flight plan is automatically sequenced if the first leg of the TEMPORARY flight plan (which corresponds to an active leg) matches the active leg being sequenced. This is done regardless of whether managed LAT CONTROL is engaged or not. If managed LAT CONTROL is active, the TEMPORARY flight plan is automatically erased when the first TEMPORARY leg no longer matches the active leg of the primary flight plan. If managed LAT CONTROL is active and there is either a temporary offset or a temporary hold at PPOS revision pending, the TEMPORARY flight plan is automatically erased when the current active leg (i.e. the TO waypoint) is sequenced. If the revision is performed on the primary flight plan, then only the TEMPORARY primary flight plan is created for display. Likewise, if the revision is performed on the alternate flight plan, then only the TEMPORARY alternate flight plan is created for display. This includes alternate flight plan initialization (airport or CO RTE) via the ALTN prompt on the LAT REV page.
TEMPORARY F-PLN

TEMPORARY F-PLN
Figure 030
When a TEMPORARY flight plan exists, it is available for display on both sides. So, for example, if a TEMPORARY is created on side 1, the TEMPORARY flight plan is displayed on both NDs and both MCDUs (when appropriate). Either MCDU can be used to vertically or horizontally slew the TEMPORARY flight plan on the TEMPORARY flight plan page. However, vertically or horizontally slewing the TEMPORARY flight plan on one MCDU does not cause the TEMPORARY flight plan to slew on the other MCDU. If a TEMPORARY flight plan is created from the primary (or alternate) flight plan, then only the TEMPORARY primary (or alternate) flight plan is slewed on the MCDU. The alternate (or primary) portion is not displayed. All TEMPORARY flight planning pages (F-PLN, LAT REV, 2nd level LAT REV) display ERASE in field 6L and INSERT in field 6R. Selecting ERASE on a 2nd level temporary LAT REV page (e.g. DEPARTURES 1/2, HOLDS pages), returns the display to the LAT REV page and erases the TEMPORARY flight plan. Selecting ERASE on a TEMPORARY LAT REV page (e.g. OFFSET page) or a TEMPORARY F-PLN page erases the TEMPORARY flight plan and returns the display to the F-PLN page (A or B) displayed prior to accessing the LAT REV page. Selecting INSERT on any temporary LAT REV page activates the TEMPORARY flight plan and displays the corresponding active F-PLN page (A or B) (revise point always oriented at its place prior to the revision). Selecting INSERT on a temporary F-PLN page does not change the orientation of the page (waypoints always at the same line). If an entry of NEXT WAYPOINT or NEW DEST is made on the LAT REV page or if ENABLE ALTN is selected, the corresponding temporary F-PLN page is automatically displayed. Lateral OFFSET entry on the LAT REV page does not automatically display the temporary F-PLN page. Instead, a temporary LAT REV page is displayed with all fields blanked except OFFSET field and ERASE and INSERT prompts. If one MCDU displays any active F-PLN sub-page (e.g. LAT REV, SID...) and the 2nd MCDU is used to create a TEMPORARY, the first MCDU automatically reverts to the temporary F-PLN page oriented to the FROM. If a TEMPORARY exists pressing the F-PLN mode key on either MCDU displays the temporary F-PLN page with the TO waypoint in line 2. If a LAT REV page is displayed (whether or not a TEMPORARY exists), pressing the F-PLN key reverts the display to the F-PLN page (temporary or not) with the TO waypoint in line 2. If a TEMPORARY exists, pressing the AIRPORT mode key displays the corresponding temporary F-PLN page with prompts ERASE and INSERT in line 6.
