FMGS 4 SESSION GUIDE
01 - SESSION OBJECTIVE
· Practice the FMGS functions.
02 - TRAINING TOPICS
A. REVIEW
· Practice most of the FMGS functions through a complete flight profile.
· FMGS Flight Planning.
B. INTRODUCE
· FMGS procedures (Descent preparation and approach briefing).
03 - SESSION PROFICIENCY CRITERIA
· Knowledge of the FMGS functions and MCDU pages.
· Understanding of FMGS indications (FMA, ND, MCDU, FCU).
· Ability to perform FMGS programming.
04 - SESSION GUIDE
2 : PF/PNF TASK SHARING is important to be practiced the proper way :
- monitoring the system engagement on the FMA is mandatory.
- call outs of all mode changes are the key to crew coordination.
13 : Symbols appearing on ND, PFD and MCDU should be clearly known and understood
by the students (all of them are published in the FCTM Volume 4).
15 : This exercise must be monitored, because if the trainee pulls the HDG selector, it will
be impossible to clear the FMA. Only FD1 (if CPT’s side active) or FD2 (if F/O’s side
active) can be turned OFF ; the other one is always ON. To avoid this problem, perform
a STORE MEMO before this exercise and in case of error, RECALL MEMO will restore
a correct FMA. Mention that is specific F3D trainer and not A/C related.
20 : At 5000 FT : "On company request, immediate return to departure".
23 : As the managed approach has not yet been studied, this VOR approach will be flown
in SELECTED mode.
