15) Remove idler pulley (5) and the friction washer located behind the idler pulley.
16) Cut off and discard the tie-wraps securing the wiring and disconnect connector (4) from the servo-actuator.
17) Hold the servo-actuator and remove the three bolts (12) and the three washers (11).
18) Remove the servo-actuator. Blank off the electrical connector.
19) Temporarily install pins (15) and screws (16).
20) Temporarily install the friction washer, idler pulley (5), guard (13) and screw (14).
C. Installation of B38 pitch trim servo-actuator (Figure 201)
1) Make sure the controls immobilization tool is installed on the pilot control wheel.
2) Make sure the switch-breaker of the main switch is open.
3) Make sure the autopilot main switch is set to "OFF".
4) Inspect cables and pulleys (1) for condition - refer to 20-00-07.
5) Remove screws (16) and pins (15).
6) Remove screw (14), guard (13), idler pulley (5) and the friction washer located behind the idler pulley.
7) Clean and moderately coat the threads of bolts (12) with Loctite (TB 08-013C).
8) Position the servo-actuator on support (10) and secure it with bolts (12) and washers (11).
9) Remove the blanking cap and connect connector (4). Secure the electrical wiring and the connector with tie-wraps.
10) Screw turnbuckle barrel (7) onto threaded end (8) to ensure grip over two threads.
11) Position the friction washer and idler pulley (5) on its axle.
12) Wind the cable onto drive capstan (17) and idler pulley (5) - see detail A.
13) Connect threaded end (6) to turnbuckle barrel (7) while ensuring the same thread grip for both threaded ends (6) and (8). Slightly tension the cables without twisting them.
14) Remove both cable clamps (2).
15) Remove the sign prohibiting operation of the elevator tab control.
16) Set the elevator tab control to "nose-down" position and then to "nose-up" position.
17) Using the tensiometer, check the cable tension - refer to 27-30-03 Page 501.
NOTE : Check the tension of the cable to the rear reel and the tension of the cable from the rear reel.
18) If the cable tension is incorrect, perform the following operations
a) Screw in or out turnbuckle barrel (7) to modify the cable tension without twisting it.
b) Set the elevator tab control to "nose-down" position and then return to "nose-up" position.
c) Check the cable tension and repeat steps a) thru c) until you obtain the correct tension.
19) Lockwire turnbuckle barrel (7) and both threaded ends (6) and (8) with lockwire dia. 0.032 in (0.8 mm).
20) Position and secure pins (15) with screws (16).
