ASA’s FAR/AIM and Flight Crew 2010 Update
9/2/10

Changes to the Federal Aviation Regulations can occur daily via the Federal Registers, and the Aeronautical Information Manual is updated every 6 months. ASA keeps you current by publishing the FAR/AIM series annually, providing online Updates and an email subscription service so you’re noti.ed when a change has been made affecting the information in your books.
With this Update, the 2010 FAR/AIM and FAR for Flight Crew regulations are current through September 2, 2010.
The FAA released a new Basic Manual to the Aeronautical Information Manual in February 2010 and Change 1 in August 2010. The major changes are included at the end of this Update.
Regulation changes are listed by release date with the exception of Part 61. It can be found on Pages 2 through 27 of this Update.

MISCELLANEOUS
On Page 88 of ASA’s 2010 FAR/AIM book, change Section 61.101(j) to read as follows:
§61.101 Recreational pilot privileges and limitations.

In order to .y solo as provided in paragraph (i) of this section, the recreational pilot must meet the appropriate aeronautical knowledge and .ight training requirements of §61.87 for that air-craft. When operating an aircraft under the conditions speci.ed in paragraph (i) of this section, the recreational pilot shall carry the logbook that has been endorsed for each .ight by an authorized instructor who:

(1)
 Has given the recreational pilot training in the make and model of aircraft in which the solo .ight is to be made;

(2)
 Has found that the recreational pilot has met the applicable requirements of §61.87; and

(3)
 Has found that the recreational pilot is competent to make solo .ights in accordance with the logbook endorsement.

On Page 192 of ASA’s 2010 FAR/AIM book, change §91.307(a) to read as follows:
§91.307 Parachutes and parachuting.
(a)
No pilot of a civil aircraft may allow a parachute that is avail-able for emergency use to be carried in that aircraft unless it is an approved type and has been packed by a certi.cated and appro-priately rated parachute rigger—

(1)
Within the preceding 180 days, if its canopy, shrouds, and harness are composed exclusively of nylon, rayon, or other similar synthetic .ber or materials that are substantially resistant to dam-


age from mold, mildew, or other fungi and other rotting agents propagated in a moist environment; or

On Page 211 of ASA’s 2010 FAR/AIM book, change Section
91.609 to read as follows:
