 G. Engine Drains (Ref. 71-70-00) The drain and vent system consists of lines collecting and carrying waste fluids and vapors overboard. This system drains accessories and engine components.

 (Ref. Fig. 004)
The composite outer skins of the inlet cowl and fan cowl incorporate a
lightning protection system (Ref. 71-11-00 and 71-13-00). Mechanical
attachment and fittings conduct the current into the pylon/engine
 structure.

 J. HIRF and EMI The inlet cowl and fan cowl composite graphite outer skins incorporate an Expanded Copper Screen (ECS) which increases the electromagnetic compatibility of the structure. The continuous fan cowl door to pylon rub strip is made of corrosion resistant steel materials which closes the electromagnetic aperture of this joint. The fan compartment ventilation scoops are made of 321 steel material and the fan compartment ventilation exhaust located in the lower right hand fan cowl door features an Inconel 625 grid which screens electromagnetic signals.
 K. Ventilation (Ref. 75-00-00) The engine fan and core compartments are ventilated to maintain equipment, and fluid, temperatures at suitable levels. Ventilation of the compartments also contributes to fire prevention by eliminating the buildup of flammable fluids, or vapors, to dangerous levels.

 A. Calibration of the Air Flow Test Rig It is necessary to calibrate the test rig used for the oil circuit air flow check. This calibration permits to check an air flow range from 7.3 to 74.6 pph (2.7 to 28 m3/h), which can be used on all CFM56 engines.
 (1) Connect the test rig compressed air supply fitted with ADAPTER, TEST RIG - AIR FLOW CHECK (856A3267G02), to TOOL KIT - MASTER AIR NOZZLE (856A2662G01).

 (2) Firmly hold the body of the master air nozzle.

 (3) One after the other, put the 3 jets, calibrated hole first, inside the body of the tool.

 (4) Measure the air flow rate with each jet, under the test conditions which follow:

 (a) Pressure: 19.8 psig (137 kPa)

 (b) Temperature: 68 deg.F (20 deg.C)

 (c) Characteristics of the air supply hose installed between the test rig and the master air nozzle:

NOTE : You must use the same hose when you do the airflow tests.
