(2) Move the attachment lock on the rod assembly to release the hold-open rods from the attachment brackets on the engine.
(3) Move the hold-open rod assembly away from the engine case.
(4) Press the release lever and retract the hold-open rod assembly until the minimum extension is reached.
NOTE : Only a small force is required to operate the release levers.
____ If excessive force is used, damage will be caused to the component. If difficulty is encountered in the operation of the release levers, a twisting action on the concentric rods will ease operation.
(5) Attach the hold-open rods to the stow brackets located on the fan
cowl doors. Make sure they lock into place on the attach brackets. R

R B. Close the fan cowl doors
R (1) Lower the fan cowl doors and press them together to engage the door R latches.
R CAUTION : DO NOT TURN THE ADJUSTA-KEEPER ASSEMBLY CLEVIS (EYEBOLT)
_______ R WITH A TOOL. IF YOU TURN THE CLEVIS WITH A TOOL, YOU WILL R BREAK THE KEEPER-ASSEMBLY-HOUSING GUIDE. IF THE GUIDE IS R BROKEN, THE CLEVIS CAN TURN, AND IT MAY NOT ALIGN CORRECTLY R WITH ITS MATING LATCH WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS CLOSE. THIS R INCORRECT ALIGNMENT MAY CAUSE THE LATCH AND CLEVIS NOT TO R ENGAGE CORRECTLY AND PREVENT THE LATCHES FROM CLOSING. IF R THE LATCHES ARE NOT CLOSED CORRECTLY, THE FAN COWL DOORS R MAY OPEN IN FLIGHT. USE ONLY HAND FORCE TO MAKE SURE THE R CLEVISES DO NOT TURN.

R (2) Make sure that the latch hooks on the left fan cowl door are R correctly engaged in the clevises (eyebolts) on the right fan cowl R door.
R (3) Close the latches in the following sequence:
R (a) Front latch
R (b) Center latch
R (c) Rear latch
R (4) Adjustment:
R CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THE SPECIFIED FORCE IS NECESSARY TO PUSH THE
_______ R LATCH HANDLES CLOSED AND TO OPERATE THE "OVERCENTER" R LOCKING FUNCTION OF THE LATCHES. IF THE LATCHES ARE NOT R CORRECTLY CLOSED, THE FAN COWL DOORS CAN OPEN IN FLIGHT.
R (a) Push each latch handle closed until it snaps over center and the R handle remains in the fan cowl door slots.
R NOTE : A correctly adjusted latch requires 40 lbf (17.8 daN) to
____ R 50 lbf (22.2 daN) of force at the end of the latch handle R to achieve the overcenter locking function. If you believe R that the latch tension is not correct, adjust it R (Ref. TASK 71-13-00-800-041).
R (5) Make sure that all latch handles stay in the fan cowl slots and are R aligned with the adjacent fan cowl surface.
R (6) If you find any latch that is not aligned, open the latches and do R again steps (2) through (5) until the latches are correctly closed.
R NOTE : All the latches must be latched when the fan cowls are closed.
