曝光台 注意防骗 网曝天猫店富美金盛家居专营店坑蒙拐骗欺诈消费者

The stuff that dreams are made of! On 12th December, New Zealander Nevil Hulet, flying in South
Africa, set what is likely to be accepted by the FIA as a new PG distance world record – 502.6km. The
flight took some 7.5 hours and involved a max height of 5670m and an average speed of 56km/h and
during the flight, and at one point, a maximum speed over the ground of 126km/h because of stronger
winds at altitude. Dream on, guys!
NEWS
Notice of Club Annual General Meeting: You are formally advised that the Club Meeting on
Monday 30th March will be the occasion of the NWHGPC AGM. Should any member wish to stand for
election to the Club Committee or have any matters they wish to be discussed, or motions to be
considered and voted on at the AGM, would they please submit their intentions / subjects (with the
name of a seconder in the case of those wishing to stand for the committee) in writing to the Secretary,
Stu Harrison, 12 Wendover Close, Noctorum, Wirral CH43 9HU, by 28th February. This will give time
for such matters to be circulated to Committee and Members in advance of the AGM.
Membership Renewals: The Committee has decided that the annual subscription will remain at
£15.00 for the year 2009-10. For reasons of Liability Insurance cover, you are reminded that you must
be a current member of the BHPA in order to be an active member of NWHGPC. Note that we
periodically check your BHPA membership status with BHPA HQ database.
The introduction of on-line subscription payment facilities two years ago means that we are moving
away from 1st April as the time for membership renewal for all. Without doubt, online payment is the
best and quickest, for both members and the Club, and is the way we prefer members to pay their
annual subscriptions. New members can join at any time, and renewals become due twelve months
after the last one was paid.
3
The renewal process will take the subscription automatically from your PayPal account - so long as the
credit card details you originally used to set up that account remain unchanged. If your credit card
details have changed in the last year, this automatic process will fail and you not realise that it has, so
you should revise your PayPal account soon so they have current card details. Soon, you should receive
from the Club an email confirmation of your joining / renewal, but as I write this, the process for
issuing this confirmation is still being developed.
If you prefer to pay be cheque, this remains perfectly acceptable! Please send a cheque for £15.00
(payable to NWHGPC) to the Secretary Address above), together with a note of your full name and
address, phone number, e-mail address, BHPA membership number, glider type (HG, PG, both), pilot
ratings, airtime, next of kin details.
Cautionary tales - 1: Early in February, Steve Hogan took off from the snowy hilltop of our
Llangollen site and had a good 20 minutes in the air with good height gains. About an hour later, Jimbo
Seward took off on Steve’s hang-glider, sank rapidly and quickly bombed out to make a safe bottom
landing. Jimbo thinks he took off into the downward phase of wave, or (remotely) that the wing might
have been affected by icing. This site can be affected by wave, so choose your moment …
Cautionary tales - 2: The committee invites PG pilots to review and apply the advice published in
January Skywings: BHPA Safety Notice 11/08 on the subject of ‘360 degree turns and nose down
spirals’. While paragliders have become more and more safe in normal flight, this problem appears to
apply most to the very glider types we fly!
Club Sites: I am pleased to report that all is very well in our relationships with our flying site
landowners. No lambing closures are foreseen. All I ask is that you pay attention to each site’s rules
and parking conditions so that no obstructions are caused.
Parachute Repack: Some 20 flyers, both NWHGPC members and from other clubs, enjoyed an
informative day and went on their way safe in the knowledge that their reserves are ready!
Anyone for the 35th Anniversary Celtic Cup? To be held at Mount Leinster, Ireland on the May
Bank Holiday weekend. As a club that flies mainly in Wales, maybe we should try to field a team.
Steve Kynaston and sons are planning to be there to hang-glide: any PGs feel like making the trip?
There might even be some Club sponsorship towards the costs! See February Skywings, page 8.

Club monthly Paragliding Competitions: Stu Lloyd proposes to continue with the monthly PG
Comps this year, to take place on the weekend prior to Club Night meetings on the last Monday of each
month, vis:
24/25 March 25/26 April 23-25 May
27/28 June 25/26 July 29-31 August
