The manoeuvrability of a vector being inversely proportionate with its weight, Aster is thus as
small and light as possible. The direct consequence was to lead to a dichotomy between the
interception envelope, depend on the main propulsion and the effectiveness inside this
volume. The Aster is thus placed in its interception envelope by a jettisonable booster,
dimensioned according to the operational requirements. To meet the requirement of 360°
coverage in a reduced firing window and with short interception ranges, the launch of the
Aster is vertical and the nozzles of its booster are flexible. They are derived from space
technologies (ARIANE).

The choice of a strong aerodynamic flight control combined to an additional pyrotechnical

agility and the manoeuvrability unequalled in all its operation area and this mainly at high
altitude, which clearly distinguishes it from its competitors.

SYSTRAN out-of-the-box translations are always of a high quality and require minimal, or no, revisions.

From the Chairman & Editor
At a recent meeting, the Club Committee decided that we should issue a printed Newsletter on this
occasion (though it will also be posted on the Website), not only to current members, but also to former
members who have lapsed in the last couple of years, in the hope of welcoming you back if you are still
an active free flyer – or getting you flying again if you have taken a break from it. I know, the weather
over the past two summers has been so frustrating and not given many opportunities for flying, but hey,
things can only get better! Let’s hope we see more of you on the hill this season! And don’t forget that
we hold a monthly Club Night at the Airbus Social Club at Broughton, on the last Monday of each
month (except Bank Holidays), for ‘Speaker Meetings’ or just a social get-together.

Well done, all you hardy folk who don’t let a bit of cold keep you grounded! Another month and things
will be looking up – and so will we, towards skies bursting with spring thermals! Whether you have
flown through the winter or not, do check you kit thoroughly: even better, have it professionally
serviced. Also, a read through parts of the Pilot Manual would be a good idea. Aim to fly safely this
year. Also, I suggest you review the Club Sites Guide so that you are up to date with relevant rules and
conditions for each site; for example, the revised parking arrangements at Llangollen on a busy day.
Six club members are in the process of completing flying tasks and preparing for their BHPA Pilot
rating assessments: Gentlemen, we wish you every success!
It’s good to see that Mike Rimmer is fit and airborne again – and by all accounts, flying a ‘speed
riding’ wing from time to time!
Thanks to Andrew Donnison for a very informative talk about photographing and filming from the air,
at our January meeting. I think we will see more cameras being used in future, but remember what he
said: safe flying comes first! Is there anyone else out there with an interesting talk for a Club Night?
