4 WHEN YOU MOVE THE AIRPLANE 4-00 GENERAL 4-00-1 General
1.  Before you move the airplane from the incident area to a repair area, you must do some procedures. Some of the procedures that may be necessary are:
A.  Get the necessary approvals and releases from the appropriate authorities and insurance companies to release and move the airplane.
B.  Remove the fuel from the airplane.
C.  Remove the payload.
D.  Prepare the incident site for lifting and towing or winching of the airplane.

When it is possible, make an inspection of the airplane damage. If the airplane damage is small, make a careful inspection of the landing gear. All the gear must be locked in the down position. All the gear must also be structurally safe for the support of the airplane. Install pins (downlock pins) in all the landing gear before you tow (or winch) the airplane (see Figure 4-1 and Figure 4-2).

Install landing gear downlock pins using the following procedures:


A.  Make sure main and nose landing gear are down and locked.
WARNING: MAKE SURE OTHER PERSONS DO NOT MOVE THE CONTROL LEVER FOR THE LANDING GEAR TO THE UP POSITION. IF THEY MOVE THE CONTROL LEVER TO THE UP POSITION, THE LANDING GEAR COULD RETRACT AND CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
B.  If the electrical system is energized and the hydraulic system is pressurized make sure the control lever for the landing gear is in the ON position.
C.  Make sure other persons do not move the control lever for the landing gear to the UP position when you install the downlock pins.
D.  Gain access to the nose gear and install the downlock pin through the forward and aft lock links. See Figure 4-2.
NOTE:  IF THE DOWNLOCK PIN WILL NOT GO INTO THE LOCK LINKS, IT IS POSSIBLE AN ADJUSTMENT OF THE LOCK LINKS IS NECESSARY.
E.  Gain access to the main landing gear lock links with a step ladder and install the downlock pin through the upper and lower lock links. See Figure 4-1.
NOTE:  IF THE DOWNLOCK PIN WILL NOT GO INTO THE LOCK LINKS, IT IS POSSIBLE AN ADJUSTMENT OF THE LOCK LINKS IS NECESSARY.
F.  If any of the downlock pins cannot be installed, damage has occurred and components or even the whole nose or main landing gear assembly may need to be replaced.
