2-50-2 The Removal of Fuel
1.
You can remove fuel from the tanks with the pressure procedure or with the suction procedure. The pressure procedure uses electrical power and will remove fuel from all of the tanks. The suction procedure does not use electrical power but it will only remove fuel from the main fuel tanks.

In all procedures, you must use the defuel valve to connect the fuel (feed) manifold to the primary (fueling) manifold. You must put the fueling adapters in the defuel position before the fuel can make an exit through them. Then you can connect the fueling adapters to the fuel nozzles.

2.
The defuel valves are installed on the rear spar of the wings on the outboard side of the wheel well. They operate with electrical power and they have a manual (override) handle (see Figure 2-32). You will find the fueling control panel and its adapters on the lower surface of the right wing. They are on the outboard side of the nacelle (see Figure 2-33).

2-50-3 The Movement of Fuel Between Tanks
1.
It may be necessary to move fuel from one tank to a different tank. This can improve the condition for lifting the airplane. For example, if you have a folded primary gear, the wing with the folded gear will be lower to the ground. By moving fuel from the lower wing tank to the higher wing tank, you move the CG inboard, towards the higher wing tank (see Figure 2-34). This will help you to lift the lower wing with a smaller force. For airplane debogging, the same is true. One gear may be on pavement and the wing higher, and the other gear in mud and the wing lower. Moving fuel weight from the wing with the gear in the mud, to the wing with the gear on the pavement, will help to make debogging easier.

2.
Open the defuel valve of the supply tank and the shutoff valves (pressure fuel) of the receiver tank. This connects the fuel manifold of the supply tank to the primary (fueling) manifold. The boost pump of the supply tank moves the fuel.

3.
In an different procedure (if the defuel valve of the supply tank does not operate), you can open the crossfeed valve and the defuel valve of the receiver tank. This connects the fuel manifold of the supply tank to the fuel manifold of the receiver tank. The boost pump of the supply tank moves the fuel. The crossfeed valve is on the rear spar of the wing in the wheel well (see Figure 2-35).
