4-20-3 When You Tow or Winch the Airplane from the Main Gear
CAUTION: DO NOT TOW THE AIRPLANE FROM A GEAR THAT HAS DAMAGE. IF YOU MUST USE THE GEAR, YOU MUST FIRST REPAIR IT.

There are tow lugs on each of the main gears. For more data see Figure 4-13 and Figure 4-14. Attach the nose gear to a vehicle with a towbar. This vehicle will move and stop (steer and brake) the airplane. For details on the nose gear fitting see Figure 4-13. See Figure 4-19 thru Figure 4-22 for different towing and winching arrangements.

Use a wire rope cable between the airplane and the tow vehicle or the winch. The cable must have applicable fittings and cable diameters for the required load with sufficient safety factors. Use load indicating devices (see Figure 4-23) between the gear and the cable to prevent damage to the gear from a dangerous load. See SUBJECT 3-20-4 for data about shackles.
