1. When You Lift the Airplane With Three Cranes
A. You can lift the total airplane with three cranes. Crane sizes will change based upon the lifting weight of the airplane and the positions of the cranes. See SUBJECT 2-30-4 for airplane weights. See Figure 3-56, Figure 3-57 and Figure 3-58 for the usual boom crane ratings. There are several possible reasons why three cranes may need to be used to lift the airplane:
(1)
You do not have access to the area below the airplane.
(2)
You must replace all of the landing gear before you can move the airplane.
(3)
You must lift the airplane onto a trailer, allowing you to move the airplane from the runway or off runway.
B.
You can lift the total airplane weight with cranes positioned at special locations. Put a crane and a recovery sling at the forward fuselage and two cranes, one on each side of the fuselage, behind the wing as (see Figure 3-52). This arrangement is for lifting an airplane with a center of gravity that is forward of the main landing gear (i.e. forward CG). When an aft CG lifting situation is necessary, the crane used for stabilization must be placed at the aft fuselage instead of the forward fuselage.
WARNING: DO NOT USE TETHER LINES ATTACHED TO THE LIFTING SLING TO MAKE THE AIRPLANE STABLE.
