G. Attach the sling to the crane with lines (cables). Then make the lines tight.
4. Sling Installation, Main Landing Gear Trunnion
A. At each MLG trunnion use steel cables or a full sling. You can use steel, polyester or a different equivalent material for your sling. Make sure that you use a safety allowance (safety factor) of 5 to 1 when you make your material selection. The sling must be approved to lift this minimum load:

B. There is a small clearance around the MLG trunnion on the airplane. Do not make the sling width smaller than 4 inches (11 cm)
C. To lift a wing, you can attach a sling to the MLG trunnion (see Figure 3-53) on that side of the airplane only. If you must lift each of the wings, you can attach a sling to each of the two MLG trunnions.
5. Sling Installation, Main Landing Gear Beam
A. Examine the structure near the landing gear. There are two struts (inboard and outboard) between the landing gear beam and the rear spar. See Figure 3-54. If these parts are not damaged, you can lift the airplane from the landing gear beam.
B. Remove the wing panels that are above the beam and below the beam. This gives you access to the beam.
C. Put the sling around the beam and use wood blocks as shown in Figure 3-54. Put the center of the sling 12 inches (30.5 cm) inboard from the inboard stabilizer strut.
6. Lift the Forward Fuselage With a Crane
A. After you prepare the sling and the crane equipment, start to lift the airplane slowly to the necessary height.
NOTE: IF YOU MUST LIFT THE NOSE ABOVE A LEVEL AIRPLANE ATTITUDE, INSTALL A TAIL JACK AT THE AFT JACK POINT. THEN YOU MUST DECREASE THE TAIL JACK HEIGHT WITH THE CHANGE IN THE TAIL HEIGHT OF THE AIRPLANE. ALSO, THE AFT JACK POINT MOVES FORWARD WHEN YOU DECREASE THE TAIL HEIGHT. THUS, IT CAN BE NECESSARY FOR YOU TO MOVE THE TAIL JACK FORWARD.
B. You must adjust the tether lines continuously while you lift the airplane.
C. When you have the correct height for the forward fuselage, you can extend the gear or use some different equipment. This equipment can be a truck (flatbed trailer), a dolly or a tripod jack. The sling is on the forward jack point. Thus, if you use a jack, you must first install more supports (cribs). Then you must remove the sling. See SUBJECT 3-30-12.

NOTE: IF THE CONDITIONS AT YOUR RECOVERY OPERATION PERMIT, YOU CAN KEEP THE AIRPLANE NOSE IN THE SLING. THEN YOU CAN MOVE THE AIRPLANE AND THE MOVABLE CRANE AT THE SAME TIME.
D. After you put the nose on its gear or some different equipment, you can remove the cranes and the sling.
7. Lift a Wing with a Crane at One Point Only
A. You can easily lift a wing of the airplane with a movable crane. Attach a sling to the MLG trunnion. NOTE: MAKE SURE THERE IS A SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SLING AND THE
