2-40-2 No. 1 and 2 Cargo Doors
1.
The cargo doors (No. 1 and No. 2) are connected to the airplane fuselage at the top of each door and open away from the airplane (see Figure 2-19 and Figure 2-20). They are on the right side of the lower fuselage. The front door is 55 inches (139.7 cm) wide, 42.5 inches (108.0 cm) high, and its centerline is at Body Station 590. The rear door is 55 inches (139.7 cm) wide, 44 inches (111.8 cm) high, and its centerline is at Body Station 1410. Each door has a clear access to the cargo compartments. They open outward and hinge at the top.

2.
The cargo doors operate with manual and electrical power. The door latch is a manual operation (see Figure 2-20) and the door movement is an electrical operation. You can control the electrical movement (hinge drive mechanism with a 3-phase 115/120 volt motor) from an external panel on the fuselage. You can also control the electrical movement from a panel in the cargo compartment. When electrical power is not available, you can open (not close) the door manually from a panel in the cargo compartment.

3.
When electrical power is not available you can open the cargo doors with the manual system.

WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE THE DOOR OR LET THE DOOR STAY OPEN IN WINDS MORE THAN 75 MPH, 65 KNOTS OR 120 KM/HOUR. INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
4.  Use the following instructions to manually operate the No. 1 or No. 2 cargo doors.
WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE THE DOOR WHEN THE AIRPLANE IS PRESSURIZED. INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
A.  Do not operate the door in high winds.
(1)  To operate the manual drives on the door you can use a speed wrench (3/8-in. square drive) or one of the following power tools:
Indresco Inc. P/N 210810-8
Deprag Inc. P/N 376331U
Black & Decker P/N 2665K
CAUTION:  DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH FORCE ON THE DOOR HANDLE. THE MAXIMUM EXTERNAL HANDLE LOAD IS 167 POUNDS (76 KG) MEASURED AT ONE INCH FROM THE HANDLE END. TOO MUCH FORCE ON THE DOOR HANDLE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CARGO DOOR.
