(5) Detailed Description
NOTE: THE NUMBERS IN PARENTHESIS AFTER THE COMPONENT'S DESCRIPTION ARE THE FIGURE AND THE ITEM NUMBERS OF THE ILLUSTRATED PART LIST (IPL) (refer to Page Block 10001).
(a) The actuator assembly consists of:
-
A single phase electric motor (03-610) equipped with an electromagnetic brake. The motor is sealed to external elements on the casing side
-
A ball-screw assembly (02-310) converting the rotational movement of the nut into a translation by the screw
-
A circuit allowing the balls to circulate reduces friction between the nut and screw
Page 4
-
A clutch assembly (02-190) consisting of two friction discs (02-260) placed between the two transmission gears. In the mechanical chain, the clutch is located between the electrical motor and the ball-screw
-
A transmission gear assembly providing the mechanical link between the electric motor and the ball-screw nut
-
A recopy assembly (03-290) consisting of a gear train, a potentiometer (03-570), two cams (03-210 and 03-240) and two microswitches (03-140 and 03-180).
B. Operation
(1) General Operation
(a)
The mechanical system of the brake is engaged, when the electromagnetic brake is not supplied. The coil of the electromagnetic brake release the mechanical system, when the brake is supplied with 28 VDC.
(b)
When the motor is supplied, the rotational movement of the electric motor axle is transmitted to the nut of the ball-screw assembly via the gear train.
(c)
The ball-screw assembly transforms the rotational movement of the nut into a translation movement of the screw.
(d)
A ball circuit provides mechanical linkage between the nut and screw and reduces friction. Two mechanical stops limit travel of the screw in fully extended and fully retracted positions.
(e)
The gear on the ball-screw nut controls a recopy system. This system consists of a set of gears providing rotation of the spindle of a potentiometer. The rotation of this spindle gives differing electrical values according to the position of the translating ball-screw.
(f)
Two cams on the potentiometer spindle activate two microswitches, one for the retracted position the other for the extended position.
