Cirrus and Jeppesen have collaborated to create an innovative webbased
transition course for pilots. Intended to be used at the factory
and in the field, this course is the first in a series designed to promote
safe flying through life-long learning.
On February 23, 2007, Cirrus and Jeppesen co-hosted a media
event in Denver, Colorado with the first demonstration of the course.
Cirrus anticipates the course will be released for all pilots and instructors
in mid-to-late April.
The new Cirrus Transition Course includes eight hours of online
ground school and syllabi for six scenario-based flight workshops.
Cirrus and Jeppesen believe that this is the first time that such an integrated
curriculum has been provided in a General Aviation training
program. Safety themes woven through the course include:
• Preventing accidents through system safety
• Understanding aircraft systems and interpreting system status
• Operating avionics systems
• Executing flight procedures
• Planning cross-country flights
Each flight workshop offers scenarios and valuable support for
providing a FITS-approach to training.
The Transition Course is supported by the Jeppesen Learning
Center. This software platform provides student performance tracking
and other instructor tools. Other valuable features of the new
Transition course include:
• A total integration of scenario-based learning for maximum
learning
• A learning design that blends computer based training and flights
with an instructor
• A separate Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) course to guide and
assist instructors who use this course
The Jeppesen Learning Center provides flight instructors a way to
validate competency through assessments, monitor student progress,
access the latest FAA information, provide supplemental information
(AOPA, Cirrus updates, etc), and provide completion certificates.
The computer based course is engaging and easy to navigate. The
content is highly interactive, filled with audio and video files, simulated
flight scenarios, diagrams and animated graphics. The course will be
available on the web and can be utilized by the pilot at home, in a briefing
with a flight instructor, and in a classroom.
Designed to be easily updated for changes in Cirrus aircraft,
instructors can be confident that they offer students the most up-todate
training content possible.
