Tomas Scheckter Wins Lease on Cirrus SR22 Aircraft
Professional Driver Excited To Learn How To Really Fly
DULUTH, MN. (June 22, 2003) – IndyCar® driver Tomas Scheckter won more than the
pole position when he posted a first place time of 219.300 mph in the time trials at the
Bombardier 500K at the Texas Motor Speedway, earlier this month. He also won a free
one-year lease on a very popular airplane, the Cirrus SR22.
Scheckter was very excited about winning the use of the Cirrus, “I can’t believe I have a
plane,” he said, as he received the keys to the aircraft from Dale Klapmeier, Cirrus cofounder,
and executive vice president. “I wanted to sleep on it.”
Klapmeier commented, “All of us at Cirrus are thrilled that Tomas has won the use of an
SR22. His enthusiasm is contagious, and reminds us of how exciting flying really is. He
will be a great ambassador for Cirrus and for General Aviation.”
Cirrus participated in the Bombardier 500K as a sponsor of the Flying Aviation Market
Expo as a way to introducing to flying people who are unfamiliar with General Aviation
(GA). The company is known worldwide for the advanced technology used, not only in
the design and manufacture of its SR20 and SR22 models, but for the unique safety
system each Cirrus plane carries, as standard equipment- a parachute for the entire plane.
Scheckter, according to insiders’, is an up-and-coming driver. He was named 2002 Co-
Rookie of the Year for the Indianapolis 500, and won his first IRL IndyCar Series race
last year. Scheckter is driving for Target and Chip Ganassi Racing this season.
Cirrus Design Corporation (www.cirrusdesign.com) has delivered more than 850
airplanes and doubled output in 2002. Based in Duluth, Minnesota, with an additional
facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the company manufactures and markets personal
aviation composite four-seat aircraft, incorporating advanced technologies that result in
high levels of performance, safety and comfort.

For Tornado Alley Turbo, a partnership with Cirrus seemed only natural and logical as the Cirrus SR22 is now the world’s best-selling airplane.
For some pilots, turbochargers
help solve real operational
problems. If you live out west,
where pilots need airplanes to
match their mountains, a turbo has
obvious benefits. It can catapult you
up into the lower flight levels, well
above five-figure terrain and clouds
that grow taller out west than they do
Down East. More realistically, a turbo
allows for quicker cruise, even at
non-oxygen altitudes, and dramatically
improves takeoff and climb performance
when flying from high-altitude
airports.
Some airplane models sell as well
or better in turbo trim. The Cessna
206, 210 and 310 were most popular
when they were fitted with compressors,
and today’s Turbo Skylane easily
outsells the normally aspirated version.
For some aviators, however, turbocharging
has an attraction that can
transcend its real talents. It can be an
end in itself, the ultimate in piston
sophistication and a status symbol that
announces you’ve arrived. Regardless
of whether you actually use the blower,
you have the high-altitude edge over
