1. Message from the Chairman
Datuk Dr. Ahmed Tasir Lope Pihie was the Secretary to the
Malaysian Aerospace Council (Chaired by the Prime Minister
of Malaysia) up to 2008. He is the architect of the Malaysian
Aerospace Blueprint which plans the development of all
sectors of the industry.
“The Malaysian aerospace industry is a strategic but
open industry that allows participation of companies
from all over the world. In recent years, the industry has
tended towards risk sharing ventures with projects like
the A380, A400M and Boeing 787. This scenario requires companies intending to
embark on such projects to position themselves on a higher strategic platform
with competitive advantages such as technical know-how.
Strand Aerospace Malaysia (SAM) embodies this paradigm shift in the industry
by focusing on higher-value upstream aerospace activities. As a knowledgebased
organisation, the company relies on its intellectual capital (e.g. in house
knowledge databases and training systems) as the source of its competitive
advantage. To this end the company aspires to become the national repository
for aerospace structures knowledge and to play its part in accelerating the
transformation of the Malaysian Aerospace industries landscape to that of
increasingly higher-value activities.
The presence of SAM will enable Malaysian engineers to become primary
structures signatories as well as expedite the bringing of primary structures work
to Malaysia. This in turn can increase the attractiveness of the Malaysian
Aerospace Industry, for investors, industry players and employees alike.

SAM with the help of the Government of Malaysia is poised to attain the critical
mass needed to quickly establish itself as a key supplier of aircraft engineering
services to the global aerospace market. Its goal is to become the focal point for
the global aerospace industry in the Asian region.”
