you, but if the student is performing well then just stay static and allow maximum
student practice of the new skill.
5000 Feet
Observe the students altitude awareness during the entire skydive. At break off ensure
there is a safe distance between you and the student but continue to observe their track and
deployment making a note of the altitude.
Coaching Lesson

The aim of this lesson is to teach:
360 Degrees Turns in Place
Training Aids: The Coach, DVD, Video, Bean Bag, Jumpsuit and Altimeter,
Creepers, Mirror
Revision: Read through the theory to Transitional and Rotational moves. Also,
emergency procedures where appropriate.
Explanation: Explain theory to achieving 360 degree turns in place.
Demonstration: Using an assistant or a freeze frame of the video, demonstrate the
position as a whole. Break the position into parts and demonstrate
the move.
Imitation: Student to practice.
Practice: Practice the skill in reps of 5.
Practice with corrections until proficient.
Practice eyes closed.
Confirmation: Go through the whole dive sequence from exit to track off. Confirm
in air coaching signals and emergencies. Re-emphasize altitude
awareness and break off at 5000 feet.
Coaches Notes:
With the student lying down, ask the student to initiate a turn and push the inside of the
ankle to simulate air pressure. Allow them to get a feel for the air resistance in relation to
the turn they are attempting to aid in their co-ordination.
It is often the case that co-ordination problems occur with either 360 degree turns or side
sliding but not both. If one does not work move onto the other and come back the problem
later.

Exit
Ask the student which exit they would like to practice next.
Vary the exits from jump to jump.
Give the student time to adjust into the neutral position, ensure the student is in a neutral
position before attempting a new skill, they should be ready by the time you reach
terminal.
In Air Coaching
From a position in front of the student demonstrate a 360 degree turn in place. Go slow and
be precise giving a good controlled demonstration. Give the signal for the student to
attempt a 360 turn, when static give corrective signals if necessary.
The balance between the amount of demonstrations you do to the students attempts is up
to you, but if the student is performing well then just stay static and allow maximum
student practice of the new skill.

Coaches Notes:
From a co-ordination point of view, students may find turns less than 360 degrees harder
because they have less time to think before having to think about stopping. You may have
more success in teaching 360 degrees first.

From a position in from of the student demonstrate a 90 degree turn, left and right. Go slow
and be precise giving a slow controlled demo. Give the signal to the student to attempt
90 degree turns left and right, giving corrections if needed. Either give a demo or give the
signal for 180 degree turns, give corrections if needed.
