Size and number of de-icing/~ti-icing pads
Note.- An aeroplane de-icinghti-icing pad consists of

do not overlap, but are exclusive for each pad. Consideration
will also need to be given to bypassing of the area by other
aeroplanes with the clearances specified in 3.15.9 and 3.15.10.
3.15.6 Recommendation.- The number of de-icing/antiicing
pads required should be determined based on the
meteorological conditions, the type of aeroplanes to be treated,
the method of application of de-icinghnti-icingfluid, the type
and capacity of the dirpensing equipment used, and the
departure flav rates.
Note.- See the Aerodrome Design Manual, Part 2.
Slopes on de-icing/anti-ichg pads
3.1 5.7 Recommendation.- The de-kindanti-icing pah
should be provided with suitable slopes to ensure satirfactory
drainage of the area and to permit collection of all excess
de-kindanti-icing fluid running off an aeroplane. The
maximum longitudinal slope should be as little as practicable
and the transverse slope should not exceed 1 per cent.
Saength of de-icing/anti-icing pads
3.15.8 Recommendation.- me de-icing/anti-icing pad
should be capable ofwithstanding the traffic of the aircraft it
is intended to serve, due consideration being given to the fact
that the de-icing/anti-icing pad (like an apron) will be
subjected to a higher density of traffic and, as a result of slowmoving
or stationary aircraft, to higher stresses than a
runway.
Clearance distances on a de-icingtanti-icing pad
3.15.9 Recommendation.- A de-icing/anti-icing pad
should provide the minimum clearances specijied in 3.13.6 for
aircraff stands. Ifthe pad layout is such as to include bypass
configuration, the minimum separation distances specijiid in
Table 3-1, column 12, should be provided.
3.15.10 Recommendation.- Where the de-icindantiicing
facility is located adjoining a regular taxiway, the
taxiway minimum separation distance specijed in Table 3-1,
column 11, should be provided. (See Figure 3-44
Environmental considerations
Note.- me excess de-icinganti-icing fluid running off an
aeroplane poses the risk of contamination of pund water in
addition to aflecting the pavement su$ace fiction
characteristics.
3.1 5.1 1 Recommendation- Where de-icing/&.-icing
activities are camed out, the sug7ace drainage shdd be planned
to collect the run-offseparaterY, pmnting its mixing with the
normal surface nur-off so that it does not pol& the ground
water.
