(1) Open the DME circuit-breaker.
(2) Put a 3/32 Allen wrench into the access hole for
the locking screw. Engage the screw.
Refer to Figure 1.
(3) Turn the screw counter-clockwise until the unit
disengages from the mounting rack.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ON THE KNOBS. DO NOT PRY THE FACE-PLATE. IF
YOU PULL ON THE KNOBS, OR PRY THE FACE- PLATE, YOU CAN
DAMAGE THE UNIT.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE CONNECTOR CARD AT THE REAR OF THE
UNIT. THE ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE ON YOUR BODY CAN
DAMAGE THE UNIT.
(4) Pull gently on the sides of the unit to remove it
from the mounting rack.
(5) Install the protective covers on the rear
connectors of the DME receiver.
B. Install the DME Receiver

(1) Remove the protective covers from the
connectors on the replacement unit.
(2) Slide the unit into the rack. Engage the locking
screw so that the latch front-lobe touches the
rack.
(3) Turn the locking screw clockwise so that the rear
lobe engages the mounting rack.

CAUTION: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE LOCKING SCREW. YOU CAN
DAMAGE THE LOCKING MECHANISM.
(4) Continue to turn the screw until the unit is fully
installed in the mounting rack.
(5) Close the DME circuit-breaker.
(6) Do a test of the DME. Refer to Paragraph 5.
3. Remove/Install the Remote DME Switch
A. Remove the Remote DME Switch

(1) Remove the instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 25-10.
(2) Open soldered connections on the rear of the
remote DME switch.
(3) Remove the screws which attach the remote
DME switch to the panel.
Hold the switch!
(4) Remove the remote DME switch from the panel.
B. Install the Remote DME Switch

(1) Put the remote DME switch in position in the
panel.
(2) Install the screws which attach the remote DME
switch to the panel.
(3) Establish the soldered connections on the rear of
the remote DME switch.
(4) Install the instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 25-10.
(5) Do a test of the DME. Refer to Paragraph 5.

4. Remove/Install the DME Antenna
A. Remove the DME Antenna
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Remove the co-pilot's seat. Refer to Section 25-10.
(2) Release the co-axial connector from the antenna.
(3) Release the screws which hold the antenna.
(4) Carefully pull the antenna clear of the fuselage
and hold it.
If necessary, carefully cut the sealant
around the base of the antenna. You
must not damage the fuselage skin.
(5) Move the antenna clear of the airplane.
B. Install the DME Antenna

(1) Carefully remove any sealant from the area
where the antenna attaches to the fuselage.
(2) Clean the area where the antenna attaches to the
fuselage.
(3) Put the antenna in position under the fuselage.
(4) Attach the antenna with the screws.
(5) Connect the co-axial connector to the antenna.
(6) Seal the outer edge of the antenna to the
fuselage skin with sealant.
Use Dow Corning 732 RTV.
(7) Install the co-pilot's seat. Refer to Section 25-10.
(8) Do a test of the DME. Refer to Paragraph 5.

5. Test the DME

(1) Switch the DME ON:
S Set the master switch ON.
S Set the avionics master switch ON.
S Set the ON-OFF switch on the DME receiver
to ON.
The DME display must light.
(2) Make sure that the DME receiver is tuned to a
useable DME station.
(3) Do a test of each control function. Refer to this Section.
(4) Do a test of the DME remote channeling.
(5) Switch the DME OFF:
S Set the ON-OFF switch on the DME receiver
to OFF.
S Set the avionics master switch OFF.
S Set the master switch OFF.
