) VLOC. NAV or ILS information presented on the HSI.
) GPS. GPS information presented on the HSI.
) MSG. ON indicates message(s) active.
) WPT. ON indicates reaching the arrival waypoint.
) TERM. ON indicates airplane is within 30 miles of departure or arrival airport.
) APR. ON indicates the approach is active.
The GPS annunciation unit has these controls:
) TEST button. It is used for testing the annunciation lamps.

G. GPS Antennas
The DA 40 can be equipped with the following GPS antennas:
) Bendix/King KA 92.
) Garmin GA 56 (one or two).
They are located on the top surface of the fuselage, behind the aft edge of the canopy frame.

Trouble-Shooting
1. General
The table below lists the defects you could have with the GPS and the GPS annunciation control unit.
If you have the trouble detailed in the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then
do the repair given in the Repair column.
Trouble Possible Cause Repair
Error message on GPS
receiver.
Internal error. Refer to GPS manufacturer's
documentation.
GPS does not operate. GPS circuit-breaker not set.
Faulty GPS receiver.
Faulty cables/connectors.
Set the GPS circuit-breaker.
Repair or replace the GPS
receiver.
Do a test for continuity on each
cable. Do a test for short circuit
to ground and between cables.
Replace defective cables.
GPS unable to acquire
satellites.
Faulty GPS receiver.
Faulty GPS antenna.
Faulty connection between
GPS antenna and GPS
receiver.
Repair or replace the GPS
receiver.
Do a test for correct
impedance of the antenna. If
necessary, repair or replace
the antenna.
Ensure proper cable
connections. Do a test for
correct impedance of the
antenna co-axial cable. Do a
test for continuity on each
cable. Do a test for short circuit
to ground and between cables.
Replace defective cables.
GPS annunciation control unit
does not operate.

Maintenance Practices
1. General
This Section tells you how to remove/install the items of the GPS equipment.
2. Remove/Install the GPS Receiver
A. Remove the GPS Receiver
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Open the related circuit-breaker(s). GPS circuit breaker for KLN 89B,
KLN 94, and MFD 150.
COM and NAV/GPS circuit breakers for
Garmin GNS 430/530.
(2) Put a 3/32 Allen wrench into the access hole for
the locking screw. Engage the wrench into the
screw.
Refer to Figure 1 (KLN 89B), Figure 2
(KLN 94), Figure 3 (MFD 150), Figure 4
(GNS 430), or Figure 5 (GNS 530).
(3) Turn the screw counter-clockwise until the unit
disengages from the mounting rack.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ON THE KNOBS. DO NOT PRY THE FACE-PLATE.
YOU CAN DAMAGE THE UNIT.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE CONNECTOR CARD AT THE REAR OF THE
