There are two versions of the fuel quantity indicating system for the standard tanks. Version A is
compatible with Version A of the inboard fuel chamber. Version B is compatible with Version B of the
inboard fuel chamber. Refer to Section 28-10 for more data on the fuel storage system.
Both versions use the same fuel tank probes and fuel quantity indicators. The fuel tank probes are
however installed differently, thus requiring a different Revision Level of the EPROM in the Data
Processing Unit (DPU).
(1) Version A
Version A has
) a short (40 mm = 1.6 in) Teflon sleeve over the fuel tank probes near the outboard end,
) the EPROM, Part No. 3034219, Revision Level 1.002 (marked on EPROM) in the DPU, and
) a placard below the fuel quantity indicator stating that the maximum indicated fuel quantity is
15 US gal (refer to Section 11-30).
Version A is factory standard up to serial number 40.054.
(2) Version B (MÄM 40-047)
Version B has
) a long (240 mm = 9.4 in) Teflon sleeve over the fuel tank probes on the outboard end,
) the EPROM, Part No. 3034219, Revision Level above 1.002 (marked on EPROM) in the DPU,
and
) a placard below the fuel quantity indicator stating that the maximum indicated fuel quantity is
17 US gal (refer to Section 11-30).
Version B is factory standard from serial number 40.055 on (MÄM 40-047 installed).

B. Long Range Tanks (OÄM 40-071)
Figure 2 shows the fuel quantity indication system main components for the Long Range Tanks. The
fuel quantity indication system indicator is part of the integrated engine indicating system. The
inboard fuel chamber in each wing has a fuel probe and a fuel sensor. The long range fuel chamber
in each wing has also a fuel probe. The fuel quantity indicating system cannot be calibrated in
service.
Electric cables connect the fuel probes to the I/O board of the integrated engine indicating system.
The system displays the fuel quantity on an indicator located in the instrument panel, below the
integrated engine indicating display.
Electric cables also connect the fuel sensors to a low fuel caution light in the annunciator panel.
Refer to Section 31-50 of the AMM for more data on the annunciator panel.

3. Operation
As the fuel level in the fuel tanks decreases, the area of the fuel probes which are “wetted” with fuel will
also decrease. The amount of "wetted" area is converted into an electrical signal which sets the fuel
quantity reading at the fuel quantity indicator. The fuel quantity indicator displays the quantity of fuel in
the left fuel tank and the right fuel tank.
The fuel quantity indicator shows the fuel quantity both digitally and graphically. The digital display
shows the fuel quantity in US Gallons. The digital display will be replaced by a “Lo” caption if the
remaining fuel in one of the two fuel tanks falls below 5 US gal (19 liters). The graphic display shows
the fuel quantity in the tanks as a percentage of the maximum quantity.
If the optional Long Range Tanks (OÄM 40-071) are installed, the fuel quantity indicator also displays
the fuel quantity in one of the two long range fuel chambers. When the AUX FUEL QTY switch (next to
the fuel quantity indicator) is set to LH, the fuel quantity in the left outboard chamber is displayed. When
the switch is set to RH, the fuel quantity in the right outboard chamber is displayed. The fuel quantity
