the GPS circuit-breaker to the GPS receiver. Refer to Chapter 92 for the wiring diagrams.
Every 28 days, Bendix/King receives new data base information. This information is downloaded
onto data base cards. The data base card is inserted in the slot on the left side of the GPS receiver.
There are three data base coverage areas available for the KLN 89B. They are known as the
'Americans' data base, the 'Atlantic' data base, and the 'Pacific' data base.
The KLN 89B GPS receiver has these controls:
) ON-OFF knob. It is used to turn the unit on and off.
) Right outer knob. When the cursor is off, it is used to select the page type (for example, APT,
NAV, FPL, etc.). When the cursor is on, it is used to move the cursor on the display.
) Right inner knob - When the cursor is off, it is used to select the specific page number for a
page type (for example, APT 1, APT 2, APT 3, etc.). When the cursor is on, it is used to select
alphanumerics or other applicable data for the field the cursor is on.
) CRSR (cursor) button. It is used to turn the cursor on and off.
) MSG (message) button. It is used to view messages.
) OBS button. It is used to select between LEG mode and OBS modes.
) ALT (altitude) button. It is used to select the two Altitude Pages where baro settings are made

The avionics bus or, if installed, the essential avionics bus supplies power to the GPS receiver. The
ALT/BAT switch and the AVIONICS MASTER switch must be set to ON to supply power through
the GPS circuit-breaker to the GPS receiver. Refer to Chapter 92 for the wiring diagrams.
