Section 31-50
Central Warning System - Lycoming Engine
1. General
The DA 40 with the Lycoming engine installed has warning, caution and status lights combined in a
single annunciator panel. There are two variants of the annunciator panel ('DAI' and 'White Wire'). Only
one variant is installed.
2. Description and Operation
A. DAI Annunciator Panel
(1) Warning, Caution and Status Lights
) OIL PR Red warning light indicating low oil pressure. An oil pressure transducer installed
in the engine accessory housing operates the warning light when the oil pressure
is less than 25 psi.
) FUEL PR Red warning light indicating low fuel pressure. A fuel pressure transducer installed
in the fuel line between the engine driven fuel pump and the injector operates the
warning light when the fuel pressure is less than 14 psi.
) L FUEL Amber caution light indicating low fuel level in the left fuel tank. A fuel level switch
in the left fuel tank operates the caution light. The caution light starts to flash when
the fuel level in the left fuel tank is low. It illuminates permanently when the fuel
level (usable) in the left fuel tank falls below 3 US gal (±1 US gal).
) R FUEL Amber caution light indicating low fuel level in the right fuel tank. A fuel level switch
in the right fuel tank operates the caution light. The caution light starts to flash
when the fuel level in the right fuel tank is low. It illuminates permanently when the
fuel level (usable) in the right fuel tank falls below 3 US gal (±1 US gal).
) START Red warning light indicating that the starter solenoid is energized. The warning
light receives an electrical current from the starter side of the starter solenoid. It
illuminates when the starter is being operated or when the connection between the
starter motor and the engine has not been broken. This occurs when the pinion of
the starter motor remains engaged with the propeller flywheel.

) PITOT Amber caution light indicating that the Pitot heating system is OFF. The caution
light receives an electrical current from the heater side of the Pitot heat relay. The
Pitot heating caution light is illuminated when the Pitot heating is not switched ON,
or when there is a failure of the Pitot heating system. Prolonged operation of the
Pitot heating on the ground can also cause the Pitot heating caution light to
illuminate. In this case it indicates the activation of the thermal switch, which
prevents overheating of the Pitot heating system on the ground. This is a normal
function of the system. After a cooling period, the heating system will be switched
on again automatically.
) ALT Red warning light indicating alternator failure. The warning light is operated by the
voltage regulator.
) VOLT Amber caution light indicating low voltage at main bus. The caution light is
operated when the voltage falls below 24 volts. It goes out again when the voltage
exceeds 25 volts.
) DOOR Red warning light indicating the canopy/door is unlocked. Micro-switches
connected in series operate the warning light when either the door or canopy is
unlocked.
) IGN This light is only used when the LASAR ignition system is installed.
White status light indicating that the LASAR ignition system is in back-up mode.
The LASAR control unit operates the status light when the LASAR system is in
back-up (manual) mode. Refer to the equipment manufacturer's manuals for more
data on the LASAR system.
(2) Test Switch
Select and hold the test switch to ANN TEST position to test the warning lamp filaments.
