B. Install the Fuel Tank Probe to the Inboard Fuel Chamber
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Split inboard fuel chamber from outboard fuel
chamber.
Refer to Section 28-10.
(2) Install the probe into the inboard fuel chamber:
S Apply sealant to the thread of the probe.
% S Install the Teflon sleeve to the probe.
S Carefully move the probe into position in the
inboard chamber. Engage the thread.
S Turn the probe clockwise, by hand, until the
probe is fully engaged in its mount.
S Tighten the probe.
Use 'seal-lube' or 'fuel-lube'.
Ensure that the probe goes into the guide
at the outboard end of the fuel chamber.

Section 28-41
Fuel Quantity Indicating - TAE 125 Diesel Engine
1. General
This Section tells you about the fuel quantity indicating system of the DA 40 with the TAE 125 Diesel
engine installed. Refer to Section 28-01 for the general data on the fuel system. Refer to Section 31-11
for data on replacing the fuel quantity indicator.
2. Description
Figure 1 shows the fuel quantity indication system main components. The fuel quantity indication
% system is part of the engine indicating system. The fuel tank in each wing has a fuel probe with a Teflon
% sleeve on the outboard end. The fuel quantity indicating system cannot be calibrated in service.
Electric cables connect the fuel probes to the engine indicating system. The system displays the fuel
quantity on the Auxiliary Engine Display (AED) located in the right instrument panel.
Electric cables also connect the low fuel sensor in the left tank to a low fuel caution light in the
annunciator panel. Refer to Section 31-51 for more data on the annunciator panel.
3. Operation
As the fuel level in the fuel tanks decreases, the area of the fuel probe which is “wetted” with fuel will
also decrease. The amount of "wetted" area is converted into an electrical signal which sets the fuel
quantity reading at the fuel quantity indicator. The fuel quantity indicator displays the quantity of fuel
