A. Remove the Fuel Selector/Shut-Off Valve
Remove the fuel selector valve and gascolator as an assembly.
Obey the safety precautions for fuel at all times.
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Defuel the airplane. Refer to Section 12-10.
(2) Drain the fuel from the distribution system. Use a suitable container. Drain the fuel
from the gascolator drain valve.
(3) Remove the access panel from the bottom of the
fuselage around the gascolator drain valve.
Refer to Section 52-40.
(4) Disconnect the flexible hose which connects the
left fuel tank to the selector valve, at the selector
valve.
Put caps on the connections.
(5) Disconnect the flexible hose which connects the
right fuel tank to the selector valve, at the selector
valve.
Put caps on the connections.
(6) Disconnect the fuel pipe which connects the
gascolator to the electric fuel pump at the
gascolator.
Put caps on the connections.

(7) Disconnect the connecting shaft from the selector
valve:
S Remove the left pilots seat.
S Remove the 3 nuts and bolts which attach the
operating head to the selector valve.
S Move the connecting shaft and operating
head clear of the selector valve.
Refer to Section 25-10.
Refer to Figure 1.
(8) Remove the selector valve:
S Remove the nut and washer which attach the
gascolator mounting plate.
S Remove the four bolts and washers which
attach the selector valve to the mounting
plate.
S Lower the selector valve and fuel gascolator
clear of the airplane.
Hold the selector valve!
B. Install the Fuel Selector/Shut-Off Valve

(1) Move the selector valve and fuel gascolator into
position at the mounting plate.
Make sure that the gascolator mounting
bracket is correctly located.
(2) Install the fuel selector valve and fuel gascolator:
S Install the 4 washers on the 4 bolts.
S Put the bolts and washers into position
through the selector valve into the anchornuts.
S Install the nut and washer which attach the
gascolator mounting bracket.
S Tighten all the bolts hand tight.
S Tighten the bolts.

(3) Connect the selector valve operating lever:
S Move the connecting shaft and operating
head into position on the selector valve.
S Install the 3 bolts, washers and nuts which
attach the operating head to the valve.
S Tighten the 3 bolts.
Make sure that both the selector valve
lever in the cockpit and the selector valve
are set to OFF.
(4) Connect the pipe from the gascolator valve to the
selector valve.
(5) Connect the flexible hose from the right fuel tank
to the selector valve.
(6) Connect the flexible hose from the left fuel tank to
the selector valve.
(7) Set the selector valve control lever to OFF.
(8) Refuel the airplane. Refer to Section 12-10.
(9) Do a test for fuel leaks from the connections
which you have made:
S Set the airplane ALT/BATT switch to ON.
S Set the electric fuel pump to ON.
S Set the fuel selector valve to BOTH.
S Examine the fuel selector valve and attaching
equipment for fuel leaks.
S Set the selector valve to OFF.
S Set the electric fuel pump to OFF.
S Set the airplane ALT/BATT switch to OFF.
(10) Install the access panel under the fuselage
around the gascolator drain valve.
Refer to Section 52-40.
(11) Do a test of the fuel storage and distribution
system.
Refer to Section 28-10.

3. Remove/Install the Fuel Gascolator Filter
Obey the safety precautions for fuel at all times.
A. Remove the Gascolator Filter
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Set the fuel selector valve to OFF.
(2) Drain the fuel from the gascolator drain valve. Use a suitable container.
(3) Remove the access panel under the fuselage
around the gascolator drain valve.
Refer to Section 52-40.
(4) Loosen the retaining ring which holds the
gascolator filter bowl to the gascolator.
Hold the filter bowl!
(5) Lower the filter bowl clear of the gascolator and
remove the filter.
Discard the seal if it is damaged.
