(2) Disconnect the 2 connectors from the slaving
control unit.
(3) Remove 2 screws that attach the slaving control
unit to the instrument panel.
Hold the slaving control unit.
(4) Remove the unit from the instrument panel.

4. Remove/Install the Magnetic Azimuth Transmitter
A. Remove the Magnetic Azimuth Transmitter
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Open the access panel for the magnetic azimuth
transmitter, hold it near the wing.
Hold the panel! The magnetic azimuth
transmitter is attached to the panel.
(2) Disconnect the connector from the magnetic
azimuth transmitter.
(3) Move the access panel with the magnetic
azimuth transmitter clear of the airplane.
(4) Remove the screws that attach the magnetic
azimuth transmitter to the panel.
(5) Remove the magnetic azimuth transmitter from
the panel.
B. Install the Magnetic Azimuth Transmitter

(1) Install the screws that attach the magnetic
azimuth transmitter to the access panel.
Use only the correct (non-magnetic)
screws.
(2) Put the access panel with the magnetic azimuth
transmitter in position.
(3) Connect the connector to the magnetic azimuth
transmitter.
(4) Install the access panel with the magnetic
azimuth transmitter to the wing.
Make sure that the mounting slot
marked FORE TOP is at the front.
(5) Adjust the compass system. Refer to Paragraph 6.

5. Remove/Install the HSI
A. Remove the HSI

(1) Remove the instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 25-10.
(2) Dis-connect the connectors at the rear of the HSI.
(3) Remove the screws which attach the HSI to the
instrument panel.
Hold the HSI!
(4) Remove the HSI from the instrument panel.

6. Adjust the Compass System
A. Adjust the magnetic azimuth detector
Do this part of the procedure after the magnetic azimuth detector has been installed for any reason.
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Put the airplane on an approved compass swing
base.
(2) Set the gyro compass system ON. Allow it to
complete the start-up sequence.
(3) Align the airplane north. Use an approved external reference
compass.
(4) Set the slaving control to FREE.
(5) Use the CW/CCW switch to zero the slave meter. Record the algebraic error between the
HSI compass card and the actual
alignment.
(6) Do items 3 to 5 for the other 3 cardinal headings.
(7) Add the algebraic errors and divide by 4. This is
the 'index error.'
(8) Adjust the magnetic azimuth detector:
S Loosen the 3 attaching screws of the access
panel to which the magnetic azimuth detector
is installed.
S Turn the access panel with the magnetic
azimuth detector by the amount of the index
error.
S Tighten the attaching screws.
(9) Do the procedure again as necessary to minimise
the error.

B. Adjust the Slaving Control Unit
Do this procedure after the magnetic azimuth transmitter or the slaving control unit has been
replaced.

(1) Release the the slaving control unit from the lefthand
section of the instrument panel:
S Release 2 screws.
S Pull the unit aft through the instrument panel.
To give access to the screws and the
digital meter jack sockets.
(2) Put the airplane on an approved compass swing
