C. Bendix/King KMD 150 Multifunction Display/GPS
Figure 3 shows the Bendix/King KMD 150 Multifunction Display with an internal GPS receiver. It
is located in the avionics rack in the instrument panel, see Chapter 31.
The avionics bus, or if installed, the essential avionics bus supplies power to the Multifunction
Display/GPS. The ALT/BAT switch and the AVIONICS MASTER switch must be set to ON to supply
power through the GPS circuit-breaker to the Multifunction Display/GPS. Refer to Chapter 92 for
the wiring diagrams.
Every 28 days, Bendix/King receives new data base information. This information is downloaded
onto data base cards. The data base card is inserted in the slot on the bottom side of the
Multifunction Display/GPS.
The KMD 150 Multifunction Display/GPS has the following controls:
) ON/OFF/Brightness Control. It is used to turn the unit on and off and adjust display brightness.
) Joystick. The joystick allows movement of the pointer in MAP mode and is used for all forms of
data entry or selection.
) 5 Function Keys (Soft Keys). A label is drawn alongside each valid key. Whenever a new
function is selected, by pressing a valid key, a new screen is displayed along with its new key
labels. This capability of drawing key labels that are only applicable to a particular screen is
referred to as 'soft keying', and allows one key to perform multiple functions without the
complications of multiple key presses on an conventional keypad. Refer to the manufacturer's
manuals for mor information about the function keys.

D. Garmin GNS 430/530 GPS Receiver
Figure 4 shows the Garmin GNS 430 NAV/COM/GPS system. Figure 5 shows the Garmin GNS
530 NAV/COM/GPS system. They are located in the avionics rack in the instrument panel, see
Chapter 31.
The avionics bus or, if installed, the essential avionics bus supplies power to the GPS #1 receiver.
The avionics bus supplies power to the GPS #2 receiver. The ALT/BAT switch (Lycoming version)
or ELECTRIC MASTER key switch (TAE version) and the AVIONIC MASTER switch must be set
to ON to supply power through the GPS/NAV circuit-breakers to the GPS receivers.
The GNS 430/530 GPS receivers have these controls:
) The RNG (range) key (1) allows you to select the desired map scale. Use the up arrow side of
the key to zoom out to a larger area, or the down arrow side to zoom in to a smaller area.
) The D÷ (direct-to) key (2) provides access to the direct-to function, which allows you to enter
a destination waypoint and establishes a direct course to the selected destination.
) The MENU key (3) displays a context-sensitive list of options. This options list allows you to
access additional features or make settings changes which relate to the currently displayed
page.
) The CLR (clear) key (4) is used to erase information or cancel an entry. Press and hold this key
to immediately display the Default Navigation Page, regardless of which page is currently being
displayed.
) The ENT (enter) key (5) is used to approve an operation or complete data entry. It is also used
to confirm information, such as the Database Page during power on.
) The small right knob (PUSH CRSR) (6) is used to select between the various pages within one
of the groups listed below. Press this knob momentarily to display the on-screen cursor. The
cursor allows you to enter data and/or make a selection from a list of options.
) The large right knob (GPS) (7) is used to select between the various page groups: NAV, WPT,
AUX, or NRST. With the on-screen cursor enabled, the large right knob allows you to move the
cursor about the page.
) The PROC (procedures) key (8) allows you to select approaches, departures and arrivals from
your flight plan. When using a flight plan, available procedures for your departure and/or arrival
airport are offered automatically. Otherwise, you may select the desired airport, then the desired
procedure.
