The flight mode annunciator (FMA), which is just above the primary flight displays, shows
the status of the autothrust, the vertical and lateral modes of the autopilot and flight
director, and the approach capabilities, and the engagement status of the AP/FD and the
autothrust.
After each mode change, the FMA displays a white box around the new annunciation for
ten seconds.
