 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains two tasks. The first task removes the compensator on the metering valve of the nose wheel steering. The second task installs the compensator.

 2.  Remove the Compensator on the Metering Valve for the Nose Wheel Steering

Prepare for the Removal

 (1)  
Remove the pressure from the left hydraulic system and reservoir (AMM 29-11-00/201).

Make sure the downlocks are installed on the nose and main landing gear (AMM 32-00-20/201).

 E.  
Remove the Compensator


 S 874-004
 WARNING: BLEED THE PRESSURE IN THE COMPENSATOR BEFORE YOU REMOVE IT.
_______ THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 5 CUBIC INCHES OF HYDRAULIC FLUID CAUGHT IN THE COMPENSATOR AT 250 PSI TO 290 PSI. IF YOU DO NOT BLEED THIS PRESSURE BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE COMPENSATOR, THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Loosen the bleed plug (Detail C, Fig. 401) to bleed the hydraulic pressure that is caught in the compensator.

 (2)
Use a crowfoot wrench to remove the compensator from the module.

 (3)  
Remove the compensator and the O-rings from the boss.

Procedure

Make sure the downlocks are installed on the nose and main landing gear (AMM 32-00-20/201).
