2-440.142 Remediation Activities for Fuel Spills

Catch basins (plastic drums) should be placed under wing tip overflows or elsewhere as needed, if feasible.

Arrange for cleanup of fuel spill either by using the Super Sopper machine or absorbent material.
.
Fiberglass shovels or other non-metallic tools should be used to pick up contaminated absorbent material placed in a recovery drum or other suitable disposal container. In effect, use of the absorbent creates a flammable material that is a hazardous waste and must be transported by a licensed carrier for disposal at an approved site.

discharge, shall immediately notify the following, and relay all known information:
-Tampa Fire Rescue
-
Airport Communications Center
-
Airport Police Department Watch Commander
-
TPA Control Tower (if fuel spill)
Dispatch mobile unit assigned to area, or nearest available unit, to secure the area and establish a safe perimeter away from the substance.
Evacuate and hold outside the perimeter all persons that may have been contaminated at a location designated by the DO or ADO.
Provide access through all gates and assistance to the Airport Fire Department.
The assigned Police Officer shall submit a police report setting forth pertinent information referencing the spill to include the nature of the spill and persons involved.
TPA COMMUNICATIONS CENTER RESPONSIBILITIES
The Comm Center, when informed of a spill or discharge, shall immediately notify the:

-Tampa Fire Rescue
-Control Tower

Deputy Director of Environmental & Engineering Services

Maintenance Department
If directed by the Assistant Director of Operations, notify the following, if not already notified, and relay all known information:

2-440.33 Direct all media calls concerning requests for information of the event to the Director of Public Information and Community Relations’ office.

2-440.41 Dispatch the appropriate response team and implement the appropriate plan of action to ensure the protection of life, property and the environment.
2-440.42 Notify the following agencies, relaying all known information:
