A.  EGT parameters are shown on the main EICAS display, below the N1 displays. The EICAS display shows EGT readings in a combination of vertical and digital readouts. The normal display color is white. Exceedances are shown in amber and red.
 (1)  
Readouts in the amber band show that the exhaust gas temperature of the engine is close to the operating limit. If the actual value of the exhaust gas temperature enters the amber band, the vertical and digital readouts become amber in color. During the take-off and go-around modes of flight, the amber band EGT exceedance displays are inhibited for 5 minutes during normal operation, or for 10 minutes if one of the engines is out.

Readouts in the red band show that the exhaust gas temperature of the engine is more than the operating limit. If the actual value of the exhaust gas temperature enters the red band during engine operation, the vertical and digital readouts will become red in color. If an overtemperature condition occurs, the digital readout stays red until it is reset by pushing the CNCL button. The overlimit indication can be shown again if you push the RCL button. The CNCL and RCL buttons are found on the center EICAS display select panel (AMM 31-61-00/001).

 6.  Operation (Fig. 3)

 A.  Functional Description
 (1)  
EGT is sensed by parallel alumel and chromel thermocouples in the EGT thermocouple probe. The alumel-chromel junction in each thermocouple generates an EGT-proportional voltage due to heating by the exhaust gases.

 (2)  
The signal is then sent over the EGT (TT4.95) thermocouple cables to the terminal box for the EGT (TT4.95) thermocouple cable, where the signals are averaged for channel A and channel B.
