IGNITION POWER SUPPLY - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The ignition power supply consists of two independent ignition exciters (Fig. 1) . The exciters provide starting and continuous duty ignition on demand. Each exciter is capable of independent operation and alternate use of ignition circuits is recommended. Selection is made by an engine igniter selector switch in the cockpit.
 2.  Description
___________
 A.  The two independent ignition exciters are mounted on the inlet fan case with resilient shock mounts at the 2 o'clock position. Each exciter has an input and output connector. Two types of exciters are available. Both types are unidirectional.
 B.  The high energy exciter output is 15-20 kv, with a spark rate of 2 sparks per second. Energy delivered is 2 joules per spark.
 C.  The low energy exciter output is 14-18 kv, with a spark rate of 1 spark per second. Energy delivered is 1.2 joules per spark.
 3.  Operation

 A.  The ignition exciters operate on 105 to 122 volts ac, 380 to 420 Hz input. The power is transformed, rectified and discharged in the form of capacitor discharge pulses through the ignition leads to the spark igniters.

IGNITION EXCITER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains two tasks. The first task removes the ignition exciter and the second task installs the ignition exciter.
 B.  Two ignition exciters are installed on each engine. The removal/installation procedure is the same for the two exciters.
