CAUTION: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH GREASE AND DO NOT LET THE GREASE
_______ TOUCH THE INSIDE OF SURFACE OF THE SPARK IGNITER OR THE CONNECTOR NUT OF THE IGNITION LEAD. INCORRECT APPLICATION OF GREASE WILL CAUSE FAILURE OF THE IGNITER OR IGNITION LEAD BEFORE THE USUAL TIME.
 (a)  Lightly apply a layer of grease (CP 2101) to the threads of the spark igniter boss.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE SPARK IGNITER DOES NOT FALL FROM THE
_______ IGNITION LEAD DURING THE INSTALLATION. DAMAGE TO THE SPARK IGNITER CAN OCCUR.
 (b)  Carefully put the spark igniter in the end of the ignition lead.
 CAUTION: KEEP SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE CLAMP AND SHROUD AND
_______ THE FUEL MANIFOLD AND FUEL NOZZLES TO PREVENT WORN PARTS. DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (c)  
Put the ignition lead in the spark igniter boss.
 1) Tighten the connector to 260-290 pound-inches


 (29-33 Newton meters).
 2) Install the lockwire on the connector.


 (d)  
Install or tighten the first clamp on the lead, when it is necessary.

 (5)  Do these steps to install the Type 4 spark igniter:
 (a)  If you removed the igniter bushing, do the steps that follow: 1) Remove the dust cap from the combustion case. 2) Apply a layer of grease (CP2101) to the threads of the
 igniter bushing.
 3)  If the igniter bushings have a seal ring assembly (Pre SB 72-458), install the seal ring assembly on the igniter bushing.

4)  If the igniter bushing has an igniter plug gasket(s), do the steps that follow:
 NOTE: The depth of the spark igniter is controlled by
____ the igniter bushing and igniter plug gasket(s). Each gasket is 0.015 inch (0.381 mm) in thickness.
 a) Install the gaskets that were removed under the igniter bushing. b) Temporarily install the bushing in the combustion case and tighten by hand.
 c)  Measure the dimension from the top aft side of the bushing to the inner surface of the combustion chamber outer liner (dimension Z, Figure 401, Sheet 3).
 d)  If dimension is not approximately 2.550 inches (64.770 mm), remove the igniter bushing, add or delete gaskets as required, and repeat these last 3 steps.
 e)  If the dimension is approximately 2.550 inches (64.770 mm), tighten the bushing to 540 to 600 pound-inches (61 to 68 Newton-meters).
 5)  Make sure the dimension from the top aft side of the bushing to the inner surface of the combustion chamber outer liner (dimension Z) is between 2.534 and 2.550 inches
 (64.363 and 64.770 mm) (Post SB 72-458).
 a)  If the dimension is out of limits, remove the bushing, add or delete gaskets as required, and repeat these last 2 steps.
 6)  Install the lockwire from the igniter bushing to the adjacent mounting bolt for the fuel nozzle.
 (b)  
Install the spark igniter and captured gasket as follows: 1) Remove the dust cap from the spark igniter. 2) Make sure the captured gasket is on the spark igniter. 3) Lightly apply a layer of grease to the threads on the

 igniter bushing. 4) If it is necessary, remove the dust cap from the igniter bushing. 5) Install the spark igniter in the igniter bushing. a) Tighten the spark igniter to 260-290 pound-inches (29-33 Newton meters).

 (c)  
Install the ignition lead (AMM 74-21-01/401).


 NOTE: Do not apply a layer of grease to the threads on the
____
 ignition lead end of the spark igniter.

 (d)  Install the cooling shroud around the collar. 1) Put the shroud clamp around the cooling shroud. 2) Tighten the clamp to 35-40 pound-inches
 (4.0-4.5 Newton meters).
