(6) Do these steps to remove the Type 3 spark igniters (Fig. 401):
(a)
Open the first loop clamp.
(b)
Remove the lead from the clamp.
(c)
Loosen the connector that is threaded with a removal tool
856A2007P01.
(d)
Remove the connector that is threaded as follows: 1) Unscrew the threaded connector. 2) Pull the ignition lead and spark igniter straight out from
the combustion case.
3) Do not put a side load on the spark igniter.
(e)
Make sure the spark igniter does not fall out of the ignition lead when you remove it.
(f)
Carefully pull the spark igniter free from the ignition lead.
NOTE: You can or can not remove the ignition lead and spark
____ igniter as one unit. The friction fit of the two components can be very loose.
(g) Install dust caps on the ignition lead and spark igniter boss.

(7) Do these steps to remove the Type 4 spark igniters:
(a)
Open the first loop clamp.
(b)
Remove the lead from the clamp.
1) When it is necessary, open the other clamps.
(c)
Remove the shroud clamp and the cooling shroud from the spark igniter end.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE IGNITION SYSTEM IS OFF FOR 2 MINUTES BEFORE
_______ YOU TOUCH IT. THE IGNITION SYSTEM CAN HAVE AN ELECTRICAL CHARGE FOR 2 MINUTES. THE IGNITION VOLTAGE IS DANGEROUSLY HIGH AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE SPARK IGNITER OR IGNITER LEAD, MAKE
_______ SURE YOU LOOSEN OR REMOVE THE FIRST CLAMP FROM THE SPARK IGNITER. THIS CAN PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CERAMIC TIP ON THE IGNITION LEAD.
(d) ON ENGINES WITHOUT CFMI SB 74-009; loosen the coupling nut and disconnect the ignition lead from the spark igniter as follows: 1) Pull the ignition lead from the spark igniter as follows
(After SB 74-004). a) Make sure you pull the ignition lead straight out (do not side load). b) Remove the white chamfered silicone seal from the ignition lead.

c) Discard the white chamfered silicone seal from the ignition lead. d) Make sure the white chamfered silicone seal is not in
the spark igniter. e) Keep the caged spring assembly. f) Install a dust cap on the ignition lead.
(e) ON ENGINES WITH CFMI SB 74-009; loosen the coupling nut and disconnect the ignition lead from the spark igniter as follows: 1) Pull the ignition lead from the spark igniter as follows
(After SB 74-004). a) Make sure you pull the ignition lead straight out (do not side load). b) Remove the blue symmetrical silicone seal from the ignition lead. c) Discard the blue symmetrical silicone seal from the ignition lead. d) Make sure the blue symmetrical silicone seal is not in
the spark igniter. e) Keep the caged spring assembly. f) Install a dust cap on the ignition lead.
(f)
Remove the Type 4 spark igniter as follows: 1) Hold the igniter bushing. 2) Remove the spark igniter from the combustion case. 3) Make sure you remove the captive gasket with the spark
igniter. 4) Install a dust cap on the spark igniter and igniter bushing.
(g)
Remove the igniter bushing as follows (Fig. 401):
NOTE: The steps that follow are only necessary if the igniter
____
bushing must be removed.
1) If the igniter bushing has igniter plug gaskets, do the steps that follow (After SB 72-458): a) Remove the bushing and gaskets. b) Keep the gaskets if you use the igniter bushing again. c) Identify the spark igniter, igniter bushing and gaskets
for the assembly. 2) If the igniter bushings have seal ring assemblies (Before SB 72-458), remove the ring assemblies. 3) Install the dust covers in the combustion case where you remove the igniter bushings.
