(c)
Disconnect the exciter-to-igniter cable terminal from the spark igniter.
S 026-030-C00
CAUTION: ON TYPE 3 IGNITION LEADS, USE THE CFMI IGNITION LEAD NUT
_______ REMOVAL TOOL TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUTS ON THE IGNITION LEADS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FUEL MANIFOLD.
THE IGNITION LEAD HOLDS THE SPARK IGNITER IN THE ADAPTER. DO NOT LET THE SPARK IGNITER FALL WHEN THE LEAD IS REMOVED. INTERNAL DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE SPARK IGNITER IF DROPPED. THE DAMAGE MAY NOT BE DETECTABLE BY A TEST. REPLACE THE SPARK IGNITER IF YOU DROP IT.
(6)
Disconnect the ignition lead from the ignition exciter.
S 216-010-C00
(7)
Do these steps to examine the Type 3 and Type 4 ignition leads:
(a) Examine the electrical connector for the exciter as follows: 1) Carbon tracks are not permitted. a) If there is carbon tracks on the ignition lead, replace the ignition lead.
2) After you chase the threads, thread damage of more than 30% of the first thread on the connector is not permitted. a) Replace the ignition lead if the thread damage is more.
3) After you chase the threads, thread damage of more than 10% on the first two threads on the connector is not permitted. a) Replace the ignition lead if the thread damage is more.
S 036-028-C00
(8)
Disconnect the ignition lead from the spark igniter.
S 216-011-C00
(9)
Examine the Type 3 ignition lead for these:
(a) Examine the electrical connectors on the spark igniter for
these:
1) An insulator that is cracked or chipped is not permitted
(AMM 74-21-01/801). 2) Damage to the socket contact on the igniter is not
permitted (AMM 74-21-01/801). 3) A socket that is damaged or bent is not permitted. 4) After you chase the threads, thread damage of more than 30%
of the first thread on the connector is not permitted. a) Replace the ignition lead if the thread damage is more.
5) After you chase the threads, thread damage of more than 10% percent on the first two threads of the connector is not permitted. a) Replace the ignition lead if the thread damage is more.

(10) Examine the Type 4 ignition lead.
(a)
Clean the ceramic insulator and contact with a lint free cloth that is moist with 1, 1, 1 trichloroethane (CP1011) or stoddard solvent (CP2011) (AMM 70-10-01/201).
(b)
Examine the terminal area of the ignition lead as follows:
1) Evidence of arcing, burning, or flash over is not permitted. If found, replace the ignition lead (AMM 74-21-01/401).
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ON THE CONTACT OR CERAMIC INSULATOR TO EXAMINE
_______ THE LEAD WIRE. THIS CAN CRACK THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE AND MAKE AN INTERNAL ARC PATH, WHICH CAN CAUSE LEAD FAILURE.
(c) Examine the ignition lead contact as follows: 1) Eroded or pitted areas are not permitted. If found, repair the contact (AMM 74-21-01/801).
2) Measure the dimension from the contact face to the retaining ring groove. a) A dimension of less than 0.055 inch (1.397 mm) is not
permitted. If the dimension is not in the limits, replace the ignition lead (AMM 74-21-01/401).
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ON THE CONTACT OR CERAMIC INSULATOR TO EXAMINE
_______ THE LEAD WIRE. THIS CAN CRACK THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE AND MAKE AN INTERNAL ARC PATH, WHICH CAN CAUSE LEAD FAILURE.
(d)
Examine the ignition lead ceramic insulator as follows:
1) Cracks or chips in the ceramic insulator are not permitted. If found, replace the ignition lead (AMM 74-21-01/401).
(e)
Examine the ignition lead connector threads for damage.
1) If less than 30% of the first thread is damaged, repair by chasing the threads.
