Remove locknuts and washers from retainer straps holding underwater locator beacon unit.
(3)
Remove underwater locator beacon unit. Retain straps locknuts and washers.
C. Remove Underwater Locator Beacon Unit (airplanes with Sundstrand UFDR).
(1)
Remove four screws and two mounts from the front panel of the UFDR. Remove underwater locator beacon unit.
(2)
Retain screws and mounts.
D. Remove Underwater locator Beacon Unit (airplanes with Fairchild DFR).
(1)
Remove four screws and lockwashers to separate the cover plate from cradle assembly. Pull underwater locator beacon unit from the cradle assembly.
(2)
Retain cradle assembly, screws, and lockwashers.
E. Install Underwater Locator Beacon Unit (airplanes with analog flight recorder).
(1)
Position underwater locator beacon unit and retainer straps on flight recorder door.
(2)
Install clamps with locknut and washers.
(3)
Rotate underwater locator beacon unit so that battery replacement date decal on beacon unit is visible.
(4)
Tighten locknuts.
(5)
Check that water switch on ULB end is free from dirt, grease or moisture. Wipe clean with freon solvent, if required.
(6)
Close flight recorder door.
F. Install Underwater Locator Beacon Unit (airplanes with Sundstrand UFDR).
(1)
Place underwater locator beacon unit between two mounts.
(2)
Rotate beacon so that battery replacement date decal is visible.
(3)
Secure mounts to front panel of UFDR with four screws.
(4)
Check that water switch on ULB end is free from dirt, grease or moisture. Wipe clean with freon solvent, if required.

G. Install Underwater Locator Beacon Unit (airplanes with Fairchild DFR).
(1)
Insert Underwater Locator Beacon in DFR mounting cradle with water switch facing downward.
(2)
Rotate beacon so that battery replacement date decal is visible.
(3)
Secure cradle assembly on the cover plate with four sets of screws and lockwashers.
(4)
Check that water switch on ULB end is free from dirt, grease or moisture. Wipe clean with freon solvent, if required.
H. Test Underwater Locator Beacon Unit for operation as described in par. 4.
3. ULB P/N N15F210 Only - Underwater Locator Beacon Unit Battery Replacement (Fig. 201)
CAUTION: DO NOT DISASSEMBLE ULB P/N DK100. NO BATTERY MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED FOR THE DK100 ULB. AT OR NEAR THE EXPIRATION DATE PRINTED ON THE CASE, RETURN THE ULB TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR SERVICE.
A. Equipment and Material
(1)
Spanner Wrench - DuKane 810-325, or equivalent
(2)
O-Ring - DuKane 810-342, or equivalent
(3)
Lubricant - DuKane 810-346, or equivalent
(4)
Split radiator hose, 1-1/4-inch diameter, 5 inches in length
B. Replace Battery
(1)
Remove underwater locator beacon unit from flight recorder door.
(2)
Secure underwater locator beacon unit from slipping by using split radiator hose.
CAUTION: DO NOT CLAMP UNDERWATER LOCATOR BEACON UNIT IN A VISE OR BEACON DAMAGE WILL RESULT.
(3)
Use a spanner wrench and remove end cover, marked BATTERY ACCESS, by turning counterclockwise.
(4)
Remove shock cushion from battery end if not removed with cover.
(5)
Remove battery.
(6)
Install new battery replacement date label, supplied with new battery, on underwater locator beacon unit body.
