(4)
Position NAV transfer switches to RADIO. Check that both HSI VOR/ILS/NAV annunciators indicate VOR/ILS.
(5)
Set selected course to 000.
(6)
Set compass system to indicate a heading of 0 degree.
(7)
Check that autopilot system is not in radio mode.
(8)
Select heading mode of operation for flight director mode selector.
(9)
Position RMI VOR/ADF switches to VOR.
C. Test VOR/ILS System
(1) Test VOR/ILS System Self-Test Function
(a)
Tune No. 1 VOR/ILS system to local VOR station and check that station identification code is audible over flight interphone system.
(b)
Select 108.0 MHz on captains VHF NAV control panel. Check that captain's ADI and HSI glide slope flags and pointers are out of view and that HSI VOR/LOC (NAV) flag is in view.
(c)
Actuate VOR self-test for No. 1 system while verifying following on captain's instruments: 1) HSI VOR/LOC and RMI narrow pointer flags remain in view for 3 seconds,
retract from view, and 20 +5 seconds after initiating test, reappear and remain in
view. 2) HSI course deviation bar is centered. 3) HSI to/from pointer indicates from. 4) Both VOR RMI narrow pointers indicate 180 +3 degrees.
(d)
Select 108.1 MHz on captain's VHF NAV control panel. Verify following on captain's instruments: 1) ADI and HSI glide slope flags and pointers appear. 2) RMI narrow pointers stow at 3 o'clock.
(e)
Actuate up/left ILS self-test for No. 1 system while verifying following on captain's instruments: 1) VOR/LOC, RUNWAY and GS flags remain in view for 3 seconds, retract from
view, and 20 +5 seconds after initiating, reappear and remain in view.
(f)
Repeat step (e) for down/right ILS self-test.

(g) Repeat steps (a) thru (g) for the No. 2 VOR/ILS system.
(2)
Test VOR Flag Circuit Function
(a)
Tune No. 1 and 2 VOR/ILS systems to local station (use test set if station is not present or signal is not adequate).
(b)
Open VOR No. 1 circuit breaker. Check that captain's HSI VOR/LOC flag comes into view.
(c)
Close VOR No. 1 circuit breaker.
(d)
Position VHF NAV transfer switch to BOTH ON 1.
(e)
Open VOR No. 1 circuit breaker. Check that both HSI VOR/LOC flags appear.
(f)
Close VOR No. 1 circuit breaker. Check that both HSI VOR/LOC flags disappear from view.
(g)
Position VHF NAV transfer switch to BOTH ON 2.
(h)
Open VOR No. 2 circuit breaker. Check that both HSI VOR/LOC flag appears.
(i)
Close VOR No. 2 circuit breaker.
(3)
Test VOR/ILS Transfer Switching Function
(a)
Position VHF NAV transfer switch to BOTH ON 1 and repeat VOR/ILS self-test of par. C.(1) for No. 1 VOR/ILS system. Check that captain's and first officer's self-test displays are the same.
(b)
Position VHF NAV transfer switch to BOTH ON 2 and repeat VOR/ILS system self-test of par. C.(1) for No. 2 VOR/ILS system. Check that captain's and first officer's self-test displays are the same.
(c)
Position VHF NAV transfer switch to NORMAL.
(4)
Test Pre-Selected Frequencies Function (GJ ALL EXCEPT B-2504 and B-2505)
(a)
Position signal generator approximately 75 feet from VOR antenna and operate on VOR frequency with audio modulation of 1020 Hz.
(b)
Position audio selector panel VOR switches to ON.
(c)
Select 4 different VOR frequencies using frequency controls on captain's and first officer's VHF NAV control panels.
(d)
Tune signal generator to each of the 4 VOR frequencies and operate the VHF NAV control panel frequency TFR switches in turn. Check that 1020 Hz audio tone is available when signal generator is operating at each of the frequencies selected by the TFR switches.

(a) Operate signal generator to supply a 0-degree omniradial (180-degree omni bearing) test signal on 108.0 MHz with audio modulation of 1020 Hz.
NOTE: The Collins 972Q-4 test set provides a radial bearing signal that is the reciprocal of airplane selected course.
A radial specifically means the signal as it exists along a line in a magnetic direction from the station as specified by the number of the radial. (For example, 0-degree radial is north of the station, and 90-degree radial is east of the station.)
