Monitor Fault and reply indicators are located on the transponder front panel and on the control unit. The front panel contains a reply light included in the self-test switch and two fault indicators (R/T and ANT). The fault and reply indicators on the control unit are lights. The monitor circuit supplies signals to these to provide an indication of the operational status of the transponder. When eight consecutive replies are completed, the reply lights are energized. If six faults occur within 0.1 second, a voltage output from the monitor energizes the fault light on the control unit and the fault indicator on the front panel. The fault light will remain on for 15 seconds longer than the fault condition exists. The ANT fault indicator is reset by depressing the RESET switch on the front panel. The RESET switch also resets the R/T indicator. When the fault condition clears and the transponder completes eight consecutive replies, the reply lights will again be energized as in normal operation.

Self-Test The self-test exercise in the transponder is based on the high probability that the entire unit is operational if it is capable of receiving a low-level signal and generating a reply signal. Depressing the self-test switch causes a signal to be generated by the self-test oscillator. (One self-test switch is located on the control unit and one on the front panel of the transponder). The self-test signal is injected into the pre-selector. From this point it is processed as a valid interrogation signal. If no fault exists, a reply is generated; and the reply lights are energized after 8 valid replies, as if a valid interrogation signal had been received and processed.

ATC SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
EFFECTIVITY
GJ ALL EXCEPT B-2524
1. General
A. The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of the operational and system tests and are presented in tree-type format.
B. When a test step does not check out, follow the connecting line to the box containing the trouble symptom. Continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered. When all steps in a path check out, the system is operable.
C. All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
D. The trouble shooting procedures are for either ATC system No. 1 or ATC system No. 2 (if installed).
2. Prepare for Trouble Shooting
A. Provide electrical power.
B. Check that required ATC, interphone and air data system circuit breakers on P18 panel are closed.
C. Select transponder to be tested.
NOTE: Allow at least 1-minute warmup.
D. Perform operational or system test (34-53-0/501) to isolate malfunction.
